Do we need a car on Hvar
Hi again!!
Do we need a car on Hvar, or will it spend most of the time in the parking lot at the hotel?
We are staying three nights, arriving possibly in the afternoon of the first night. We are staying at the Riva Yacht Harbour Hotel.

That depends on what you want to see and do! Some people want to stay in town; others want to explore the island. There are bus connections between some of the towns on the island; the schedules depend on time of year and are often linked to ferry arrivals/departures. You may also be able to hire scooters or boats.

Options:
just walking around town
book excursions to islands with the tourist office
head back to mainland
taking small boats to Pakleni islands and along coast
bus to Stari Grad (I've read about a bike path that runs from SG to Jelsa, which sounds wonderful to me)
walk to Milna along, bus back
If all of that fulfills your needs, then no need for a car, but if you want to explore all of the nooks and crannies of the island and see some lavender fields for example, then rent a car for one day.

We spent two nights in Hvar town a few years ago, and never left the town. We wish we could have stayed longer, as there was so much that appealed to us. A climb up to the castle, long walks along the lovely seaside promenades, a concert in one of the churches, watching the evening scramble of the cruising sailboats trying for the few moorings, nightlife down by the quai, charming restaurants.
IMHO, a car would be an expensive distraction, and a PITA, for our kind of travel.

We had a car on Hvar only because it was a stop on a 2 week trip. We were there for three days and did use the car twice. We saw some truly beautiful beaches that we might have not seen without the car but would have been fine without it. There is so much beauty there, you don't really need a car to finds it
