distance by cab from Sorrento to...

Hi there, Can you tell me distance by cab from Sorrento to Pompeii - I seem to remember it took about 1 hour? does anyone know about how much it would cost? Also from Pompeii back to cruise ship in Naples again cost and distance? I know there is a train but we prefer the cab. Thanks for your help!

Hi:

Several helpful Fodorites gave me this contact for a car/guide service that is based in Sorrento... perhaps you can go to his website and get more info.. or as another transportation option to Pompeii. Best, Lisamarc

You could save hundreds of dollars by taking the train! I went from Genoa to Rapallo by bus and train for less than 6 euros (it would have been at least 100 euros by taxi); it cost me 10 euros to go a block and a half from the train station to my hotel.

Hi F,

You are going to spend a very large amount of money on a cab.

I also suggest hiring a driver for the day. You will get to see Sorrento and Pompeii, plus you will get a guide to places that the casual tourist doesn't often see.

We were pleased with Limousine Service Sorrento (Renato Cuomo)

Also consider Francesco. He has started his own business. He might give you a better price. http://www.francescomarrapese.com/

Fly - I believe the going rate Sorrento- Pompeii is about € 50-60.

Pompeii-Naples should be similar, traffic permitting ...

Hope this helps ...

I would train to Pompeii and then get a taxi(or train)to the port.

The Circumvesuviana train leaves Sorrento about every 20 minutes, cost is 1.80E to Pompeii Scavi. The trip takes about 35 minutes and the entrance to Pompeii is across the road from the Pompeii Scavi station.

From Pompeii Scavi to Naples, the train will cost 2.20E and then you could get a taxi to the port.

Remember you can negiotate with a cab driver when you are in Sorrento. Find one that you have a rapport with, ask his price to Pompeii, waiting for you, and then on to Naples. They do it all the time.
