Discounts and coupons for what? Transit? Dining? Shopping?

(Typically anything in Paris will cost considerably more than the same thing in the US - partly since the dollar is very low versus the euro and partly since sales and discounts are much more common in the huge US market - where sales run routinely all year long.)

When will you be there?

The largest dept stores sometimes offer discounts to foreign visitors - as well as taking part in the VAT (sales tax) refund - but there may well be a lower limit to apply.

YOur hotel may have some, some of the dept stores generally have some 10 pct discount coupon that is printed on all the tourist maps they make, at least Printemps.

For Printemps, it seems you can print some discount card for your computer, see bottom RH http://departmentstoreparis.printemp...ges/index.aspx
If that doesn't work, you can get it in the store at the welcome desk.

For Galeries Lafayette, you have to go to the foreign welcome desk in their store to get the discount card, see http://www2.galerieslafayette.com/in...fontLang=latin

The only other discounts I know about are ones that come with one of the tourist passes (eg Paris Visite), but those aren'teconomical so I wouldn't buy one, the discounts don't make up for it (on some attractions or museums).

The only discounts offered to tourists are for things that are already overpriced.

There are certain ways to save money, but often they are of no interest to a casual visitor -- for example the fact that the Hippopotamus steakhouse chain has 20% discounts for eating in the middle of the afternoon, or that fact the movies are cheaper before noon in most multiplexes...

La Fourchette was the only real discount we used in Paris, it is useful and easy to navigate forfor restaurant discounts. I have a blogpost on it along with some restaurant reviews and suggestions.

As with all of these things you need to read and understand the conditions, normally you need to order a starter and a main to qualify. There's no coupon and they just take the discount off the bill with no discussion which makes the whole thing very discreet. I'd only suggest places that are well reviewed on the site.

I didn't use it but you could also check the Travezoo local deals page for Paris too.

Hope this helps and have a great time.

We used Groupon deals when we were there this month and got some amazing meals. You have to follow all the requirements but you can save a bundle.
