"Day trips" from Annecy area - could we include the Jazz Festival?
Hi everyone, as part of our European holiday this year we will be spending a week in Faverges (near Annecy) - we being husband, daughter, daughter's boyfriend and my son (all adults.)
We (husband and I) have spent a few days in Annecy previously and visited the Gorges du Fier, the 'round the lake circuit' and the market and town itself. Have also visited Mont Blanc and will probably do that again for the kids.
I am looking for suggestions on day trips from this area to ? Italy and ?Switzerland and France or course! Kids are keen hikers, DH and I keen photographers and gentle hikers!
We will be there whilst the Montreux Jazz Festival is on - 2 hours according to Google maps - would it be worth a day trip or could we drive part way and train from somewhere?
Thanks for any suggestions as always.

I LOVE Montreux! What's the question?
It will be a bit of a zoo during the Jazz Festival. You might enjoy also seeing Vevey (next town) as well, it's more laid back and residential, than Montreux will be during the Festival. Both towns have fabulous outdoor farmers markets (Vevey Tues & Sat AM, Montreux Fri AM). Yes you can get there from Annnecy by train.

Thanks suze. If we don't make the commitment to pay for the big names in advance (I think tickets released soon), are there still lots of free activities etc. to make it worth a wander round? What sort of events happen then?

here's the website www.montreuxjazz.com
honestly I've never been there myself during the Festival specifically, but yes my understanding it there are lots of freebies, outdoor stages, street food, etc. associated with it (not just the high-priced, indoor, big name tickets).
