I've stayed at the the Gellert the 3 times I've been to Budapest. I think it's a great location. It's a quick walk to Vaci Ut or the Rudas Baths. Use of the baths is included with your room. Try to get a room facing the Danube. The breakfast buffet (also included with room) has improved considerably during my stays there. Staff is very helpful. It was great waking up in the morning, going down to the baths and getting a massage. In the afternoon after sight seeing I would go in for a quick soak and steam. The rooms aren't Four Seasons luxury but are comfortable and nicely furnished.

My experience has been the same as Mark's. This is a classic hotel. It doesn't have the modern look/feel of a Hilton business giant hotel, but it is an old-fashioned classic. One of the greats of the world, really. Since it retains its old-world charm and hasn't spent all its profits in major modernization it's also pretty reasonable for a great hotel, probably around $200 per night US for a large, classic room.

The hotel is beautiful and classy, with friendly and skilled staff. You have free access to the Gellert Thermal spa through a private entrance. I booked through easyclicktravel and i thing the price was real good. I recommend this hotel if u are looking for a good hotel!

I love the hotel, but it does tend to be inconsistent ... it's owned by the successor to the socialist era major hotel chain,. and there are touches that are reminiscent of that style (for me, actually, a plus most of the time) ... more importantly, not all the rooms are equally well air conditioned or equally well renovated; and the pricing can at times be quite high. And, while very accessible to the Pest side of the city, it's actually further from the Castle District than many Pest side hotels, and it's nowhere =near as in thye midst of things as hotels in the Vth District. But, again, I love it for its ambience - sort of a resort in the middle of a city...
