Danish Books

I'm going to be spending some time in Denmark this Spring and wanted some ideas about good books set in Denmark or by Danish authors. (Have just finished Out of Africa)

My teenage son introduced me to a great book about the Danish resistance in WWII set in Denmark. I think the title was "A Light in the Window". It may be out of print now as he found it in the school library, but it is one of his and my all time favorite books.

Jens, this isn't a reply to your question. I'm wondering if you know there is a Karen Blixen museum at Rungstedlund, just north of Copenhagen. If you don't have a car, you can take the train. I love going there; there is a good film upstairs regarding her life in Africa.

And if you are interested in the book Rachel suggested (Their resistance in WWII is remarkable), you will want to visit the Resistance Museum near the harbor in Copenhagen. Boots

There's a new book by Ken Follet - Hornet Flight - about the Danish Resistance. If you like Follet you might like this book.

Also a book by Wallace Stegner called The Spectator Bird is very well written and much of the book is set in Copenhagen. Happy reading. (And while your visiting the Karen Blixen museum, be sure to stop at the Louisiana museum nearby.)

I bought The ringmaster's daughter by Jostein Gaarder, when visiting England. The book was fantastic and I couldnt put it down. Easy to read. The book is well worth a read and has a fantastic story line. Its Scandinavian, not Danish but Norwegian. I think they have it on Amazon.co.uk.
