Child's gift from Italy

I know this question is probably annoying but ... I have promised to bring a gift for a little girl aged 9 years from Italy. She loves playing soccer and is not a girly girl but also likes craft.

Any suggestions.

Thanks P

We are starting in Rome for a few days then doing a 10 day tour to northern Italy, Pisa, Assisi, Lucca, Florence, Venice, Orvieto, and then down to Sorento to do Naples, Pompeii and some Amalfi Coast then down to Lecce for a week. So we will be in quite a few places. But I am really stumped about what kids like. My boys are now 20 and 23 years old.

Thanks again.

Does she have any collections? My son has a snow globe collection that we started when he was born and he continued with...

I've only been to Italy this past summer and didn't travel to most of those places. And I have only the one son..

Venice and crafty ---maybe some glass?

I buy for my two faux granddaughters, ages 5 and 8, but they are kind of girly. However, it really should be easy when you get there. My problem is that I see too many things that are charming. I often buy them things to wear, cool soaps, art supplies and bath accessories. You will see a ton of soccer related things, and so many crafts.

I really think it will be so easy to find great things. Depending on where you are coming from, you could be faced with a bad exchange rate. But you won't have any problem finding a surfeit of things to buy.

I don't think your question is annoying at all. I love to buy things for "my" two little girls. I find it much harder to buy things for their 12 year old brother.

Oh: books that are mostly pictures but with Italian text. They all like those. A big book store will probably have soccer books of varied sorts.

We went with our 8-year old daughter and 10-year old son last summer, and many things caught their eye. My daughter loved getting the inexpensive fans you see everywhere (those in Venice depict Venetian scenes), and it really came in handy. She also liked just getting a cute tank top from Bellagio. Her favorite souveniers were the little Venetian mask she chose from a stand in Italy and a small stuffed animal from a great toy store in Rome that is right on the Piazza Navonna. We bought her a little watch that is bordered with the millefiore Venetian glass for her later birthday - only 15 euro, yet it was quite special! My son loved the soccer shirt he bought featuring a popular Italian player's number, the toy ship and gladiator also. There is a myriad of wooden Pinocchio toys, pencils, etc. most places, especially in Tuscany where the author was from. Have fun shopping!

I like the previous posters suggestion of a soccer shirt or hat from a prominent Italian soccer team. I think that would be the most usable gift.

Thanks heaps everyone. I love shopping and planned to spend some time in Piazza Navona. Looking forward to some Gelati as well.

You have given me some good ideas to keep an eye out for.

Thanks again.
