Carry on Luggage for 3 weeks in Europe, March
Hello Everyone,
We are travelling to London, Madrid, a Barcelona, Avignon, and Paris for a total of 3 weeks. We are flying regional airlines Air Europa and Easyjet, and train for everywhere else.. It is just myself and my husband and we are wondering if anyone has travelled using the ebags Motherlode weekender or similar as their only luggage?
Thanks for the help,
Elizabeth

I always travel carry-on only - but the problem is many of the regional/budget airlines have stricter rules/requirements than the 'legacy' lines do. I sometimes have to check (or gate check) even my small roll aboard . And some of the airlines charge higher check fees is you wait til at the airport to do it.
So yes - you definitely can do three weeks from a carry on . . . It is just that you can't always carry it on. You need to carefully read the fine print in each airlines' website.

I am not sure about the essence of your inquiry.
Ok, so I have done it. How does this answer help you?
Do you want to know
- if it is big enough for you?
- how to pack for 3 weeks?
- if it is too big as a carry on?
- if it is too bulky on trains?
- how to manage the impact of delayed luggage if you are asked to gate check your luggage?

Look very carefully at the regulations for luggage size on the various airlines' websites. easyJet in particular is rigorous about enforcing its restrictions. That extends to the one-bag-in-the-cabin rule, which means ONE, not one plus a purse or a tote or a laptop computer. And the dimensions may not be what the trans-ocean carriers' take for granted.

I love Easyjet, but cough up the dough to check a bag, it still makes their fare very cheap. Yes, they are serious about their rules, you can have only one carryon, and you do not get any personal item extra in addition to that, like you do on some domestic US airlines or international flights. So that includes your purse or whatever. So if you do solely carryon, you will have to have enough space left in your bag to stuff in your purse or whatever, also, when boarding Easyjet. I have seen clueless people at checkin in Easyjet with two items (and one is usually already completely stuffed full) who somehow remained ignorant of their standards even though it is all over their website, and if you pay for checking bags at checkin it is a lot more than if you add it when you buy the ticket online. So then they couldn't board when they wanted as they tried to figure out what to do with their stuff.
So maybe check a bag on Easyjet but possibly you can get away with carryon for the major flight, which is still pretty good if you have some concern about something (I assume you are doing it for fear of lost luggage).

Hmmm, does Easyjet use linear inches as well to determine whether the bag will be checked or not? The bag won't fit their dimensions exactly but it does amount to 45 linear inches total...
