Car rental in Greece
Hi,
I'd like to rent a car from the Athens airport early (8am) and return it the next day at the port (Rafina or Piraeus) at around 8 or 9pm (or in the alternative, return to the airport...it's just that I'm planning on catching the early morning ferry to Mykonos the next day...). I need an automatic because I don't know how to drive a manual. I would also like GPS.
Can anyone recommend a car rental? I've found Economy Car Rental and Swift provide great quotes (April 17-18) but I've read mixed comments here...Auto Europe is a bit more $$ than I'd like to spend. I just need a car for one person that won't break down on me and the flexibility of pick up/drop off times and locations.
Or can I just wait until I get to Athens and arrange for the car rental when I arrive at the airport? I'm arriving April 11th...but I do need an automatic so I don't know if I should reserve ahead of time.
Thanks!
Thanks!!!

Just avoid avis! We had a very bad experience with avis at Athens airport a few years ago. It involved break failure, a few days in hospital and an unauthorised credit card charge for damages to the faulty car! All well in the end thanks to visa and a lot of good luck.

Auto trans are rare in Greece ... I would book ahead and request a GUARANTEE of auto trans, not just a "reservation".
The nuances of Greek language are such, that "reservation" means "if a car is on the lot , you may get it, but we won't pomise anything"

Ouch. I've decided against renting a car at all. Too much hassle to just spend two days in Lousios gorge area so I'm going to head to Naxos instead...maybe next time...I'm still scared of driving around in Athens especially since I hardly ever drive over here...
