Capri vs Anacapri
Hi again to those who have been following my messages. I'm getting things figured out. As it's our 30th anniversary, we decided on Capri over Ischia (sorry Peter). My question is regarding the convenience between Capri vs. Anacapri. We are not partygoing people, but enjoy a good glass of wine and people watching. But we also enjoy hiking. From what I can figure out, hiking is better from Anacapri, but evenings are better in Capri. I am deciding between the Hotel Weber Ambassador, as they are not in town, but have a convenient shuttle. Alternately, I found a lovely accommodation in Anacapri at Hotel Villa Ceselle, which includes a free shuttle from the port (which would be nice)..., but then we would have to bus it whenever we wanted to go to town.... What to do?? Any suggestions would be appreciated. Grazie!

As an aside - does anyone know if there is somewhere in Sorrento to store luggage? We are taking a night ferry to Sicily, but check out is always before noon - thought we could squeeze in a day trip to Positano our last day. Thx.

AnaCapri is great for a local feel in a relatively calm environment and offers lots of great walking opportunities and easy, constant access to Capri via the buses.
Capri is great for people watching, nightlife, access to beaches, lots of great walks, shopping, shopping, shopping and some lovely gardens with beautiful views. It is also insanely crowded for most of the day. If you can handle crowds go for Capri, if you want to roam about in peace, go for Anacapri. Either way, you will have a wonderful time. Somehow, despite all the frustrating stuff, Capri works it's magic.

I had the same dilemma in 2008 when I was in the area. I ended up choosing Anacapri and liked it. Evenings have a small town atmosphere with people hanging around in the main piazza, walking, eating. Climbing Monte Solaro early in the morning was one of the highlights of my stay on the island.

As you note, Capri is busier and more lively in the evening. Anacapri, while busy during the day, is quieter at night. We stayed in Capri but traveled to Anacapri (a short bus ride) two different days to see its beautiful sights and hike on Mt. Solero. The views from both are amazing. I don't think your can go wrong with either but if we return, we'll probably stay in Capri again.
