Which town or place is the best spot to do this? thanks

Can't tell you which is the "best" but we've done it twice . Once from Beynac and once from Castelnaud. We were dropped off in Vitrac in each case.
Very enjoyable each time.
If I were to do it again it would be from Beynac as the view of Beynac from the river is fabulous.
I believe the company was Copeyere .

Cosmos...canoeing the Dordogne is exceptionally pleasurable...I've saved some "canoe rental" phone numbers from our last visit two years ago...FYI

We paid 200FF (pre-Euro days) which included a bus ride back to where we left the car at Martel, since we were staying fairly close near Rocamadour (Domaine de la Rhue..highly recommend this upscale "farm house", pool, etc...with a lovely walking trail to Roc.).

We started near Sarlat and ended near Beynac. You can find different canoe renters by using the Dordogne Yellow Pages.

My dictionary doesn't tell me, so I just had a look on google with 'plural of piranha'.

(You used the plural first anyway... I just followed your example!)

Apparently piranha is plural in English but in Brazilian Portuguese it is piranhas.

Dozens is a plural word, meaning more than one dozen, but is the word couple singular or plural? Couples means more than one couple. And what about sheep?

But we shouldn't obsess, or digress from the original thread...

right julia t - last comment - i wasn't taking issue with your grammar but was trying to make a joke about there being maybe one piranah in the Dordogne not plural, which correctly is i believe piranahs
Cosmo back to OP - but this piranahs bologny stems from a post i made a few months ago about whether there were piranahs in the Dordogne River like my French inlaws claimed and someone pulled up a web site documenting their existence in the river - more than one apparently.
Anyway grimmy's recommendation of Beynac and Castelnaud are good - probably best part of the fabled Dordogne River.

The outfit we used this August was Capeyrou, right on the waterfront in Beynac. But we only used them because they could guarantee us the particular style of kayak we prefer. In the past we have used an outfit inSt-Vincent-de-Cosse, just west of Beynac off the main road. I like their trip lengths a little better (the one from Vitrac to Beynac wasn't quite as long a I usually like - only about 2 hours). But anyway, there's no shortage of outfitters.

When are you going, though, Cosmo? They all shut down at the end of September to mid-October.

Thank you everyone!! Sorry for slow response of thanks... my timezone usually results in my posting questions but receiving answers while Im asleep.. great way to wake up in the morning with all my problems solved! - (I am getting a little exhausted though as finding myself springing out of bed at 6am to log on to Fodors...hee hee)
Having said that... I loved all the help and the answers as I read thru the thread...very exciting and just the info I needed until the end....St.CIRQ!!! - we wont get to that area until around the 26th Oct!!!! - theyll be closed... Im staying positive as I post this as I am now going to leave fodorville for an hour and start emailing every company... just incase one stays open until end Oct...
Ill post my outcome on this thread when I get my answers from the company.

Cosmo: I wouldn't count on getting emails back from canoe companies. You'll know as soon as you drive along the river whether there are outfitters still operating.
