Just a clarification: Avocados are a rare item in most of Italy. Very few places, even in Rome or Milan, reliably have them Sweet potatoes are almost non-existent in Italy. I have only seen them in health food stores. Sicily may be an exception for both items, but even then, you would need to know where to go.

Since this question is about Germany, not Italy, please refer to answers 1-3.
I understand bringing food for the baby with you for the first day or two - but loading your luggage with large, heavy amounts of food for the entire stay isn't necessary.

I know that but broad statements about these foods being available all over Europe were made by others in this thread and are false.
A lot of people come to the Fodor's forums and do searches rather than ask questions. It is astonishing the amount of incorrect information that is posted here by aggressive "Fodorites" posing as experts on Europe. Their main interest is not to help travelers with answers but to jump into threads where they can look superior & mock the supposedly less sophisticated newbies with all their hilariously backward ideas about Europe. And then the post something ignorant.
Where I can, I correct it for the sake of people traveling.
