We visited for a day... a nice spot.
The train ride takes an hour...you (kind of ) walk up to town from the train station.
.on our return ,the train was packed
with students going back to Barcelona from other towns ( it was Sunday ).

Heven't been there for ages, but this makes me want to og back: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/de...-remember.html
And three restaurants in Tarragona mentioned in the Guía Repsol, the Spanish equivalent to the Michelin guide: https://www.guiarepsol.com/es/la-gui...locality=|3661
AQ has got one sol (sun), and you can expect some 30-40€ pp.: https://www.aq-restaurant.com/
Barquet Tarragona comes recommended by the Repsol guide, 30-50€: https://www.guiarepsol.com/es/gastro...uet-tarragona/
And Les Fonts de Can Sala is also mentioned. Here you can get an obviously excellent three course lunch Menu del día with drinks for 25€. https://www.guiarepsol.com/es/gastro...s-de-can-sala/

Not familiar with Hotel Astari, but gets good and reliable guest reviews: https://www.booking.com/hotel/es/astari.en-gb.html
We were younger and wilder back then in 1987 when I last was in Tarragona, then it was just another great stop on the first serious several weeks long trip to Spain, including Barcelona and the Basque Country. Kind of got stuck in the Basque Country for some 15 years after that ;-)
