Can anyone offer info on bridal shops in Paris?
Well, my 24 year old daughter's boyfriend came to speak to my husband today to let him know he'll be popping the question on Christmas! I've the distinct feeling that the trip she and I are taking to Paris in April will be focused on her wedding. So, can anyone offer advice as to stores that we could visit to see Paris wedding fashions? Is a particular department store known for its bridal department? How about boutiques? Is there a neighborhood with a concentration of bridal store? And, how about recommendations for lingerie? Thanks.

What kind of money are you thinking of spending? I was just in Paris last month and the friend I went with stayed there after I left and was doing a couteur tour after I left. Her tour leader is very familiar with many shops, and boutiques. She also knows another woman who lives in Paris (an American expat) who teaches couteur sewing, leads fashion tours. I'm sure these women would know of people and shops that do bridal gowns, but I'm also guessing that they won't be cheap. So, I can ask for some suggestions for you if you'd like.

In September we were visiting the Grandes Palais then went to walk over Pont Alexandre III. To our wonder, the bridge was covered with brides! Brides, grooms, flower girls....and all their photographers. It was a fashion shoot for a brides' magazine. Unfortunately, I couldn't understand the name of the publication.
When I saw your query, I went to www.brides.com and searched on "Paris". Voila!---there was a photo of one of that day's brides!

The photo is associated with an article on bouquets. But I noticed the dresses are also described, including the name of the shop/designer. That might give you somewhere to start.
What fun you're going to have!

Try Pronuptia - This shop has some of the most exquisite Wedding gowns I have ever seen. They also sell floor samples of other dresses at great discount prices. A few years ago I almost bought a floor length, off-white gown with fur trim. It retailed 3000euros and was a floor sample in my size for 300 euros - alterations included (24 hour turnaround)! I still regret not buying, and finding somewhere to wear it back home
Several locations in Paris including 87 rue de Rivoli, 1e; Printemps de la Maison, 2nd floor. Here's their web address:

Creefloors, thank you for the offer; if you can get any ideas from your friend I'd appreciate it. I did send a couple of e-mails to personal shoppers to get some idea of what they could offer. I've never used a personal shopper before but it seemed that this might be a good idea in this instance.
JeaneB, thanks so much for the links, they offer some good information. And ParisEscapes, thank you, thank you, thank you. We will definitely check out your lead. Oh, Jeremy did pop the question on Christmas Eve which was alot of fun as we were at my sisters house and her oldest son just got engaged two weeks ago. So the two eldest cousins both got engaged in the same month. A far cry from when they took bubble baths together! I alway

sorry-posted too soon.
As I started to say, I always look forward to my trips to Paris with my husband. It must be phophetic that this April we decided it would be a mom/daughter trip instead.

Having shopped with my daughter for a wedding gown several years ago, I was wondering how YOUR daughter was going to manage with fittings and alterations. If you're going to just "window shop" and collect ideas, you'll have a great time visiting the places in all the previous postings.
If not, shop wherever you live. If that's anywhere near the NYC area, I'd be happy to share resources with you.
In any case, CONGRATULATIONS !!!!

readytotravel, we are really shopping for ideas. We're also here in NYC so we'll be hitting Kleinfelds, Saks, etc. as well as out local places on Staten Island. In Paris, we'll probably buy lingerie and have fun window shopping gowns!

I remember an article several years ago on the Bonjour Paris website written for Valentine's Day where some of the following (the ones I remember!) lines of lingerie were written about. From my own experience looking at lingerie in Paris, it is beautiful beyond words, but also expensive beyond words! However, for a wedding, one could certainly splurge, right???!!!
These are the names I remember:
Chantelle
Aubade
LaPerla
Lejaby
There is a lingerie store in Paris (which I'm sure you could google for the address) named "Sabbia Rosa." I don't know if that's custom only or if items can be purchased in her store.
How fun this trip is going to be!!!
Enjoy!

We stayed in a small hotel on Rue Clement that offered us discount passes (10 or 20%) to Printemps, which is a big Paris department store. If you know where you are staying, ask if they do likewise. The hotel also helped my teenage daughter and I get passes to a weekly fashion show - it was either Printemps or Galeries Lafayette, another big department store. Good luck, sounds like fun!

coolbluewater, I found Mark Ingram Bridal when I googled last night. It does look like a great place. I wonder if I'll have to sell the house to finance a wedding gown there
Aliska, thanks for the reminder about the discount. The hotel I stay at in Paris has tourist maps sponsored by Printemps which have the discount coupon and fashion show ticket.
