Buying Gatwick express tickets at the airport?

I was thinking of buying tickets while still at home in the US, but I am not sure exactly what time my flight will come in. Can you buy them at the airport? Do they tend to run out of seats? We will be arriving on a Thursday night around 10:30pm.

What do you think?

Thanks so much,

Eric

eric,

Have you seen this website?

http://www.gatwickexpress.co.uk/

It's easy to buy your tickets at the airport & I can't imagine that the train will be particularly busy at the time you expect to arrive.

It is even easier to just get on the train and buy your ticket from the conductor when he passes thru the car.

You can even pay on the train..no need to worry about space..especially at that time of night!

If you decide to buy and prepay for them online you will still have to either retrieve them from the machines near the platform or from the attendant in the booth. Probably just as easy to wait and buy them at the airport or on board.

Hello Eric,

I've bought them at the airport and on the train. Both are easy. I really liked buying them on the train the best. I did not have to worry about loosing the ticket and you can even use your credit card.

there are often 2 for 1 fares on Gatwick Express but these are advertised in publications like TimeOut and often you only have to refer to the 2 for 1 promo to get it - Time Out has had these - i saw the coupon in Time Out in Broders in US recently - go look or at least try to mention it when buying. There are no reserved seats on Gatwick Express but i've never seen the train full.

We bought ours online last year and understood that it didn't matter which train we took on our arrival date. We liked having the tickets purchased in advance, but there didn't appear to be a huge line for buying them at Gatwick.

I wouldn't buy them ahead of time - no reason to really and they would just be one more thing you'd have to remember to have out when you land.

And this talk about lines or buying tix at the airport - huh? Just get on the train, find a seat you like, and settle in. A while after the trains is on its way a conductor will come around and be very happy to sell you your tickets.

We recently took advantage of a 2 for 1 deal and purchased tickets online. We just printed up the confirmation page and showed it to the conductor on the train.

It doesn't matter what train you take - the tickets are dated, but not timed.
