But Where in Europe? Ye Gods, but this is fun!
This is one of those posts with no point or expected response. Just felt like speaking. Each year when we return from Europe, very quickly, sometimes before we get the photos in the album, we start making a list of next year's target destinations.
For 15-16 days in Summer of 2003, our short list is:
1. London and Southern England, i.e., Cotswold
2. Germany's Black Forest, the Romantic Road and Neuschwanstein.
3. Scandanavia, St Petersburg, Tallin.

Never been to any of the above. Just trying to select and plan the itinery is great fun.
I love it!

I, too want to see more of England someday outside of London.

Your choice number two can fill 15-16 days with pure pleasure.

I would like to work my way east towards Russia and former Soviet countries, starting with the Czech Republic and southern Poland.

I want to see Spain again, especiallythe northwest and central parts, and Portugal too (maybe fodorites trip, April 2003?)

Or southern Italy and Sicily.

And more of France. Always more of France.

Best wishes,

Rex
We would love to go to Cornwall in August, and just wander.
I would love to go to Florence and Tuscany in the fall.
We are starting to consider all of our destinations as possibilities for at least part time homes after retirement so there is a whole different way of looking at things now!

Planning and dreaming is so fun. I have loved every place I've been and would go back to any in a second but....there's so many places to see! Coming from So. Calif. the greenery and landscape of England and Germany were outstanding. If you opt for either of these, rent a car - only way to really see it.

I'm finally going to a place in April I've thought about for ages - Malta! Why? So much history. Adding on Sicily for a few days. Hope Mt Etna settles down.

Hi, Bill J,

Good topic.

One note: London and England in general can be unbearably crowded. If you are going during the summer, you might think about some of the less explored areas of the country -- maybe the east and north (aside from the Lake District, which will be equally crowded).

I'd give my vote to Scandianvia. Some of my clients went there this past year and loved Stockholm and Visby in Sweden, the Norway in a Nutshell tour, and Copenhagen.

As for my own travel planning: could have done a third straight trip back to explore another area of France. But, my travel group opted for the Italian hill towns. Portugal was another destination on our initial list, as was Scandinavia.

Have fun.

John H
