Budapest Hotel Help!

My husband and I are traveling to Budapest for 3/4 days at the end of the month. We're looking at 3 hotels: K&K Opera, Boscolo New York Palace and the Lanchid. Does anyone have suggestions about where to stay? Also, should we stay on the Buda or Pest side? Any must dos?

I don't know about these three hotels, but we stayed on the Buda side and really loved it. For must-do's....definitely a Hungarian bath, House of Terror Museum, and the Labrynth below Buda Castle. For more info on our trip visit our Budapest post at http://patrinadoestheglobe.blogspot.com/

Have fun!

Hi-

I will be heading to Budapest in a couple of weeks. Based on the guidebooks I've been reading, I think there's lots more to see/do/shop over on the Pest side. Basically you can see all the Buda sights in one day, but Pest sights will require a few days.

I can't say what is a "must do" since everyone's interests and tastes are different. For our trip, we have 4 full days and our plans are:

Buda sights (funicular, Fisherman's Bastion, Matthias Church, Hungarian National Gallery)
Several museums - Museum of Applied Arts, Museum of Fine Arts, Hungarian National Museum, House of Terror
Synagogue
St Stephen's Bascilica
Great Market Hall, Vaci Utca
Hungarian State Opera House (I have tix to the opera, but you can also take a tour I think)
Parliament
Heroes Sq/Szechenyi Baths

We stayed at this hotel on the Buda side and loved it. I had requested a corner room on a higher floor and we ended each day sipping a glass of wine and taking in the view. Easy to get to from the train station...metro is just a block away. We first took the tram from the metro stop and then realized we could walk. The Parliment building is across the river from the metro stop...great for photo opps.

Another vote for the Buda side--probably more to see in Pest but it's easy to get over there and I like to be high up looking down on the river. The Hilton in Buda was great; a big surprise because I felt it had a real Hungarian feel.

cathi...we felt the same about the Hilton, location, views, etc..we were in Budapest, always staying on the Buda side, twice during commie times...and once afterward...what a difference, although Hungary was always the most westernized kid on the Bloc. (poor pun)
