If just a weekend, perhaps stay in Brussels. The shopping is very good there (so my wife tells me). If you have more time go to Oostende & hang on the beach. You could also stop by Brugges in route.

I happen to know that there is a very active American Women's Club in Brussels. I don't know an address, but I bet there are lots of ways for you to find out if you are interested. They even publish a monthly magazine in which they announce all sorts of neat activities such as shopping trips, lectures, museum visits, special-subject parties, demonstrations of new products, and other such stuff. You might try to get in touch with them; I bet they'd be overjoyed to have a group visit them from the U.S. They might even arrange some kind of special function just for you.
