Best time to visit Scotland

Hi, I am planning to visit Scotland (Fortwilliam, Edinburgh) during christmas time this year, is it the right time to visit these places during this time ? I am planning to be there for 3 days, is it sufficient to see the places in Edinburgh and Fortwilliam.

Scotland in Christmas? For EDI 12/25/2005, sunrise is at 8:44am, sunset at 3:43pm.

I don't know about Christmas time, but I don't think 3 days is enough for Edinburgh and Fort William. Fort William is the other side of Scotland from Edinburgh so that's a consideration. Also, you should check & see what's open at that time. Christmas can be dicey anywhere.

I adore Scotland so if it's your only opportunity to see any of it, go for it.

I wouldn't want to visit Fort William no matter what time of year.

OK - you chose those two places for some reason.

Edinburgh is wonderful at any time of yoear. But is there a reason you also want to go to Ft William? There is nothing to see in Ft William. Now there is great hiking on Ben Nevis in the summer - but you can't do that in the winter. And it is also sort of the gateway to the Isle of Skye - but you won't have time to go there.

Also - in Scotland in December the daylight hours are VERY short. if you only have 3 days - stick to Edinburgh w/ maybe a day trip to Glasgow or Stirling. But really, there is more than enough to fill your time in Edinburgh.

Short days... but long evenings in warm bars, snuggling with a single malt.

Edinburgh- fine. Fort William- why?

There's nothing to see there, except the scenery. Family? If so, go, but don't expect to enjoy it

If you only have three days, stay in one place and have a couple of day trips. In late December I'd stick to Edinburgh or another city. Fort William is set among some fantastic scenery but the town itself is not much of a place to stay. At that time of year you could also have bad weather disrupting you rtravel arrangements - bearable if you're here for several weeks but you don't want to spend one of your three days stuck in a traffic jam / railway station / snow drift.
