Best place to pick up a rental in Venice?

Hello,

I'll be in Venice in a few weeks and I'm trying to figure out the most convenient location for picking up a rental car when I'm ready to hit the road and explore the rest of Italy. If someone could point me in the right direction I would appreciate it. Should I simply go back to the airport and rent a car there, or is there a better option? Also, if there is a better option would you happen to know what rental agencies operate at this better location?

Thank you in advance for any and all help!

-Scott

Many of the car rental places (Avis, etc.) have offices at Piazzale Roma. You can pick up your rental car there, and drive off to wherever you're going next.

Scott, last year we rented from Europcar and picked up at Piazzale Roma. It was very easy and convenient. Will you be returning your car elsewhere? If you are returning to Venice and flying out of VCE then I would go with the airport location.

Roma is where I have my Hertz pickup scheduled in November. Seems to me to be better to do it there rather than go clear out to the airport.

Thank you everyone for the advice! I just booked my car with Hertz... picking up the car at Piazzale Roma. Now let's see if I can handle driving in Italy!
