Best & most inexpensive way to get from Greece to Portugal

Will be visiting child who lives in Athens and then to Santorini over Easter. Would like to go to Portugal (open to any area), but cannot seem to find an inexpensive way to do this?

We have about a week or so after Santorini and thought maybe we could visit another island or go directly to Portugal. Would be willing to consider all options (air, boat, train, connections) as Portugal is a country we'd really like to visit, if possible.

Any ideas?

The best (about only practical way) is to fly -- but you may have left things quite late for a budget fare. You might have to connect through a different country. Maybe something like Santorini to Milan and Milan to Portugal.
