Best Easy-Moderate Hikes in Dolomites/ Dolomiti for a Photographer & Family

We are two adults and one child (8 years) heading to Dolomiti in late September from 25th - 30th... We have been there atleast 4 times on separate trips and have stayed in Ortisei, Cortina, and many other spots... Have driven all over Dolomiti including the four passes, been to Alpe Di Siusi, driven the Lakes route from Cortina all the way up to Lago Di Braise... But each of the times, we have not been able to do much hiking due to our schedule and other logistic issues...

But now that our son is grown up and is able to handle upto approximately 15 km round trip hikes of moderate difficulty, we would like to do some nice and rewarding hikes for this trip... Please share which hikes would be the most rewarding for us as a family... Me and my wife are both into photography so stunning scenery with lakes, mountains, alpine meadows and glaciers is perfect for us...

Looking forward to planning the trip with all your help!

It was a few years ago but my husband and I had a fabulous day walking in the Dolomites. We were staying at a guesthouse in Castelrotto in May and the owner recommended a hike in the Alpe di Siusi as not many cable cars were running at that time of year. We caught the cable car then just walked uphill, not following a particular path. There were lots of tiny purple flowers under foot and awesome mountain views. We didn't see anyone for hours, it was so peaceful and the sun was shining - such a great day. It wasn't a hard walk, uphill but not steep and we took it slowly anyway.

Thanks a lot KayF... we have done the alpe di siusi walk a few years back too and absolutely loved it... Agree with you that that is a quintessential walk!!

bobthenavigator, thanks a lot for the trip report... I have printed it out and starting to read through it...

Would love to hear more about potential hikes in other areas of Dolomiti outside Val gardena as well... But will start building out our itinerary for Val Gardena with this trip report as a starting point...

Enjoy, vibhav...it was easily one of our favorite hiking trips ever, and I'm sure you'll have a blast there too!

Oh Wow! What great information and AMAZING pictures! Thank you for sharing. I would appreciate advice on how to get to Selva di Val Gardena from Venice. We have 3 nights available. I'm assuming we should rent a car. It would be great to do two days of hiking. We are leaving for Italy in just two weeks (last minute change of plans) so I don't have much time to plan. We will be visiting Venice and Rome (1st trip) but wanted some relief from the crowds and heat. Any advice for me?
