Base for 5 days in Provence in October
Hello all,
I am about to complete planing for two weeks tour of Provence. I need advice where to make a base to stay for 5 days near: Avignon or Saint-Rémy-de-Provence? We will have a car and I am planing to arrive on October 8th and ideally not to drive anywhere on Saturday. The rest of the stay we are planing to drive to the different places. Thank you for advice.

I am arriving in St Remy on the 17th (if we don't get strike-jacked). It was recommended to me by a travel expert as a good homebase location for seeing Provence. Better than Avignon because its smaller and easier to find parking etc. Good luck on your trip. It sounds like you may be in a good place to not be that affected by strike-related issues.

We loved our 3 day stay in St. Remy, especially the Wednesday market day. If you are there on a Wednesday make a point to go. One of our favorites on our trip and we went to a lot of them.
We found St. Remy to be a great location for exploring Provence. We did day trips to Avignon, Les Baux, the Camargue, Arles and the Pont du Gard.

Another vote for using St.-Rémy as a base. The sprawl around Avignon makes driving in and out difficult during much of the day, and parking can be a nightmare. Day-tripping from St.-Rémy is much easier.
