Athens to Delphi bus - No online booking?
Hi Fodorites,
I'm reading that there are no online bookings on Athens bus routes to Delphi. Is it ok to go direct to the bus station and book? This is for May 3rd week. Is it likely to be busy then? Does KTEL or some other operator have a desk at the airport?
Thanks
SS

This is the website of the coach company that connects Delphi with Athens http://www.ktel-fokidas.gr/index.php/en/
Even though i see credit card signs on their page you can't buy tickets on line, but it won't be necessary.
All you have to do is go to the bus station and buy the tickets before the departure. The 3rd of May will be busy, but on the Delphi-Athens leg, due to a long weekend. (May 1st is a bank holiday due to Labour Day)

Yes, alas, Greece isn't in the 20th Century yet, even tho it's the 21st century. They have never figured out online purchase -- not even a travel agent can do it for you. Buying before boarding works OK as long as you aren't too last-minute. The FIRST Delphi bus of the day (7:30) is always fuller than later because of people wanting to do a 1-day visit, and 2nd bus isn't till 10:30 ... so even on an "off day" such as Sunday of 3 day weekend, don't come at last minute ... best to get there before 7. NOTE: bring snacks along ... there is a rest/snack stop halfway thru the 3+hour journey, but not much choice. Also, no restroom on bus, and Athens Bus Station facility is, uh, questionable, so plan accordingly.

You can buy KTEL tickets on line for some prefectures, just not for all of them yet.
Ktel busses cover primarily the needs of the Greeks, connecting even the smallest village to the next bigger town. Greeks simply don't use to pay for bus and train tickets with credit cards.....

The thought of a Greek going online to pay for a bus ticket into town with a credit card made me smile! We don't do that at home in North America or Britain either. Thanks for brightening my day, clausar!

There are several buses during the day. I think its every hour. The bus station is not the central bus station of Athens. I ve seen many people doing the same mistake. The bus station for Delphi called Liosion.
