Athens Airport to Constitution Square

What's the best mode of transport from the Athens airport to Constitution Square? We will have a lot of luggage and wondering what a taxi would cost as opposed to doing bus or train. We have never used the bus or train in Greece so not at all familiar with the stations.

Thanks for your replies.

You can take the Metro directly to Constitution (Syntagma) Square for 6 euro each or 2 for 10. The Metro leaves the airport every 1/2 hour if I'm not mistaken, between 5:30 a.m. and midnight.

There's also and Airport Express #95 Bus directly to Syntagma with plenty of luggage storage inside for 2.9 Euro. Pay the driver and validate your ticket in the little machine inside the bus. The bus leaves every 20 minutes every day all day, 24/7.

Fantastic brotherleelove2004, that's exactly what we need. Thanks so much. I hope there are lots of signs so we can find the bus easily.

Do you have any advice on the best way to see the Parthenon, just take a taxi? We don't plan to do much more than that for sightseeing since we are flying in from Munich after 5 days touring that area, we'll just camp out and relax before we board the ship the next day.

When you finish collecting your bags you'll go upstairs into the Main Hall. Walk outside and you'll see where the bus stop is, right in front of the main entrance.

How to get to the Parthenon depends on where you're staying. You can walk up from the Plaka below. The Monastiraki Metro Station is one stop away from Syntagma and is right on the border of the Plaka, so you can get there from just about anyplace else in the city. And yes, you can have a taxi drop you off pretty close to the entrance if you prefer. Make sure it's a metered taxi and be sure they turn it on.

Don't forget to make a stop at the National Archaeological Museum if you've got the time.

Here's a link to a good map of central Athens: http://www.athensguide.com/map/athens.htm

We are staying at the Grande Bretagne.

I can't seem to print the map out on my HP laser jet 4 Plus. I can only get it to print the top 1/2 of the map in landscape. What's the trick?

If you have some kind of graphics program like photoshop or Photosuite or Adobe Photo Deluxe, etc, try saving it as a jpeg image to "my pictures" in your 'my documents' file, then use your graphics software to 'find' it and change the resolution to shrink it. It's so big, that's why you can't get it all on one page. That's the only suggestion I can come up with.

If you're staying at Grande Bretagne and can't take a taxi there, then you shouldn't be staying there.

Take a taxi, it's 20EUR, don't even waste time thinking about how much a bus or train would cost you, it's not worth the effort. When you will eat and drink in the hotel will you wonder if it would've been cheaper to have brought your own wines and waters with you?

"If you're staying at Grande Bretagne and can't take a taxi there, then you shouldn't be staying there."

What a puzzling response. I fail to see how choosing the Metro or bus and walking 100 meters to the hotel over an expensive taxi can define the tone of KarenM's overall experience of the GB or how it reflects on the way they choose to spend their time and money. I'm reminded of the old phrase, "If you have to ask how much it is, you can't afford it." That's always seemed to me to be an unnecessarily hostile and elitist attitude.
