Apartment for Rent in Paris, 10th Arrondisement

I have been looking for a true 2 bedroom apartment on homeway.com and think I have found one in the 10th arrondisement on the Rue du Faubourg Saint-Martin. Can anyone tell me about this area? We have stayed in the Latin Quarter and Les Gobelins before. The apartment looks nice and it is close to the train station which will be convenient since we are coming in from Germany. The nearest metro is Chateau d'Eau. Would like to know about the restaurants/cafes and food markets if possible. Thank you!

Would help if you posted a link to the actual property, or the street number if available. In general the area is a bit charmless but not actually unsafe. Would not be my first choice but would not be horrid. Who is in your group?

I looked up the address on google maps and to be honest the street where the apartment is a bit sterile looking which not something we had in mind. My husband and will be arriving first and then a few days my son and his wife. Yesterday I found a great apartment only a 10 minute walk to the Louvre (near Rue St Honore' and Rue Rivoli)on airbnb.com, which I've used before. Here is a link to the listing, it looks perfect. We are not concerned with street noise, a s I want to be in thick of things. https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/262455 Several of my favorite places are really close (E Dehellerin, Cafe Verlets, Pont des Arts) so it's going to be perfect.

The owner seems to have a bit of attitude in her reply to the one person who had some issues. It is often tricky to use appliances in a foreign apartment, sounds like the renters had problems and couldn't get help from her. Just something to consider.

Did you notice that this is a 4th floor (5th US) walk-up?
The apartment looks very nice, but being on a high floor with no elevator would not work for us.

As long as you know where the location is, there is kind of a lot of traffic around there, plus the underground tunnel, and the address doesn't quite match what they show you videos of (in terms of the location). It is close, but the address says it is on place des Deux Ecus. This is really a photo/video of the location (which looks okay, I thought it was in front of that park where a lot of riff-raff hang out, but guess not, that is near St Eustrache). http://www.google.com/maps?q=&layer=...&ved=0CJIBEKcf

nearby cafe http://www.timeout.fr/paris/en/bars-...fe-des-inities

I wouldn't like the walkup, but the owner's response doesn't seem too bad, it's kind of typical French, may come across worse than if not in writing. Maybe the person who wrote that did something wrong, maybe it was the owner, who knows (in terms of not being able to communicate). I don't understand her going off on the tangent of problems with the website or airbnb as I didn't notice him saying anything about that. They had some problem with the utilities it sounds like.

Love the washer and separate dryer, but the placement on the 5th (US) floor without elevator is a deal breaker for me. Guess I've turned into a lazy Yank! Neighborhood is definitively an improvement over the one you found in the 10th.

Thanks everyone for your responses! Our last trip we spent in a 4th floor walkup, I doubt one more floor will be an issue!

Reading the owners reply, it looks like she had issues with her cell phone. I am not very concerned. I received 3 emails from her telling us more about the area. She seems quite nice and hopefully we won't have any problems.

I did find out to avoid the restaurant you see in Christina's link. Apparently the food is pretty bad, and should be avoided.
