Lovely. I haven't had a chance to read your trip report yet, but it looks like you had a great trip.

By the way, I wanted to thank you for the similar photo report you posted some time ago on Andalucía. It was one of the main reasons that my husband and I decided to make Spain our next trip. We just got back last week from Sevilla, Cordoba, Granada and Madrid and absolutely loved all of it! So, thank you for posting your reports and photos; they're very inspiring!

Lovely photos. Good to see the Baths of Caracalla as I really loved that place. Can't wait to visit Trojans Market. We are spending 11 days in Rome in July after spending 45 days in other parts of Italy and I can't wait as it is my second favourite place, and every time I return I feel like I have come home. Strange because I do not have one bit of Italian blood in me.

I just started you trip report. I'm bummed to hear that the crowds were that heavy, even in March. We were there in May of 2015 and again in May of 2016 and barely ventured into the most touristed parts of Rome because of the crowds. I wonder if there's any time of year that's not quite as crazy. Maybe the trick is to get up early to see places like the Trevi Fountain without the swarms of people and their selfie sticks.

The crowds were significant at the popular tourist sites - the Trevi Fountain and Spanish Steps were jammed. But in most places, the crowds were manageable and, in a few places, almost negligible (the Baths of Caracalla).

I imagine that getting up early might make a difference, though neither the Trevi Fountain nor the Spanish Steps were that important to us as we'd seen them before. We figured we'd walk by as long as we were walking in the general area, so our timing was probably at the peak tourist time.

cheska - Wow, how lucky to be able to spend so much time in Italy! And 11 days in Rome at the end - perfect.

I know we'll have to get back to Rome again, too - there is so much more to see!

We always get up very early and have a walk that takes in the sites like Trevi and Piazza Navona. There is no one around at 7.00 am. St Peters square is gorgeous at that time too. In fact walking around and watching Rome or any city wake up is one of my favourite things to do.
We then keep going to lunch time, have a long lunch, then an afternoon nap, and then we are out again. That's what I love about holidays lol.

You're much better than us! We wake up and enjoy relaxing with our coffee and finally get out by mid-morning.

Of course, it was chilly in the mornings when we were there so there's a good motivator for taking our time! Part of the pleasure for me was simply in getting up and making our coffee, though -- I really just love the whole process.
