Which Ships/Itineraries for a Family Carribean Cruise?
Would love the reccomendations of experienced Carribean cruisers based on my criteria:
Family of 4, kids ages 13 & 11
Good children's program, preferrably one where my 13 year old boy can learn and not just hang out in discos or video arcades with older kids who aren't well supervised.
Wholesome, classy...not a "party" ship.
June, 2002 out of Miami or Ft. Lauderdale.
Ports of call with nice beaches, snorkeling
natural beauty, interesting natural phenomena, or history. Not interested in shopping, particularly.
Don't think we want a 'mega-ship' as rock climbing and ice skating seem unappealling to us on a cruise ship and worried this might feel like too many people.
Thanks in advance for any helpful advice.

Hi Leslie,

I would choose the Sun, Dawn, Sea or Ocean Princess. RCCL cabins are like closets and I would not advise a family of four to book one. If you do not wish the Voyager or Explorer try the Radiance.

If you care to spend a little more, your travel agent has right now a coupon for you for $100 off the Celebrity Century.

Hope this helps.

Paul

Celebrity is our favorite cruise line, however, you will probably get a better rate on RCCL. It depends if you are going to book one or two rooms. Celebrity's rooms are 170 sq. feet and RCCL's rooms are 112 - 115 sq. feet, unless you book an oversized room. I don't think you would want 4 people in one of RCCL's regular rooms. Celebrity has the best food if that is important to you. During June you will have kids on both Celebrity and RCCL. The western Caribbean has some nice ports, excluding Ocho Rios, Jamaica. Ocho Rios has a lot of very pushy natives who are so aggressive that they make the stop uncomfortable. However, in Jamaica, your children might like walking up Dunns River Falls if they are so inclined, but it can be very crowded. Cozumel, Mexico has nice snorkeling as does the Cayman Islands. Your children might enjoy seeing and buying craft items made in Mexico. I think the Western Caribbean has more interesting ports than the Eastern Caribbean which focuses mostly on the Bahamas and St. Thomas. I don't know where you live, but there are Celebrity and RCCL cruises for Bermuda in June that leave from New York City. Bermuda is a very beautiful and safe island for the whole family, with beautiful beaches. No one bothers you on the beaches; in the Caribbean you are constantly asked about purchasing beads, T-shirts, hairbraiding, etc. I would ask your travel agent about the children's programs. I'm sure you'll also find out information about children's programs from this website. Have fun!

We are also looking to book a June 2002 cruise with 2 girls - ages 10 and 13. My husband and I have been on a Cunard and an RCL Cruise. While both have been very nice - the food on Cunard was wonderful we are not sold on cruises in general. However, the kids are set on going on a cruise - we are thinking a 7 day cruise on RCL or Celebrity may be what we are going to do. We live in Utah so a cruise out of LA would be much eaiser - any comparisons of the Carribean cruises vs Mexico would be appreciated. Also any other suggestions on cruise lines. I will not go on Carnival but other than that I am open. Good food is very important as are interesting ports. Also, is it really reasonable to book 4 people in one cabin?
