Upgrade to balcony cabin

We are leaving for a cruise in a few days, currently we have a oceanview would like to upgrade to balcony. Want to do this the least expensive way. Should we wait until once we arrive, called the travel agent, currently their is a wait list for upgrades. Also any idea as to how much an upgrade would be? Thanks

If there is presently a wait-list for the balcony cabins, what makes you think there will be cabins available once you sail?

What ship are you on...catagory...deck?

We sailing on the Carribean Princess, I am not sure of the deck maybe Plaza. The reason why I thought their maybe something available because when I called Princess yesterday to inquire about an upgrade, they informed me I needed to go thru my travel agent, therfore I thought maybe each agency Princess, travel agents etc, maybe have their own set of upgrades they refer to, sort of like the airlines. Travelocity may not show seats available on a flight but you call the airline directly they have seats available.

joadan, do not wait. Call your TA and tell her what Princess told you. Then ask to be put on the waitlist. A quick check on Orbitz for April sailing on the Carib Princess shows "sold out" for most balcony cabins.

I think the days of upgrading at the pier are few and far between. Cruiselines like to fill those ships ahead of time.

Joadan ,

Next time call the cruise line directly and ask what they have open and how many. Knowing what's available will put you in a better position. Like if nothing is available why bother looking for an upgrade when all the balconies are sold out.

we recently went on princess cruise to Mexico and the day before found out we were given a 9 catagorie upgrade. from a window room to a balcony up 5 floors. My kids wanted to know what it was worth so i looked it up and about 900.00. it was nice but i would not have paid for it. if its your one big vacation in 2 or 3 years do it. but if its just a little trip you are doing on the cheap see if you can get a window cabin.
