Travelocity and lack of quoted port charges

I'm no dummy. I've sailed enough to know port charges have to be paid. Upon checking prices on Travelocity cruises, Travelocity does not include port charges in their quotes. Anyone booked a cruise with Travelocity? Do you have to pay when you check-in? AT a later date? Is Travelocity trying to get more sales by technically misquoting and not adding port charge prices?

F-
Port charges are normally quoted as "Non-Commissionable Items" because the cruise lines do not pay the travel agents commissions on the PortCharges.I have never looked at Travelocity to book/inquire on a cruise so I dont know what it looks like.I have never been on a cruise that DID NOT have PortCharges where the passenger did not pay them. You are correct yes they are there how else would the ports where the ships call make any money.

Non commissionable items on my desired cruise totalled 21.88...port charges are usually over 100. Cruise only equaled 510 (same as the cruise web site). Why doesn't Travelocity add in port charges?

You are correct that Travelocity doesn't list the full price "up front", but you can see the final tally buy going through the process as if you were going to purchase (selecting a room, etc.). It's a couple of more clicks, but it's not overly burdensome.

That said, while I am a big fan of Travelocity in general (I'm a "preferred" member and book a few of my plane tickets and most of my hotels & rental cars through them) I would NOT book a cruise through Travelocity.

While I find their cruise interface useful for identifying cruises to take & availability, I have yet to find a Travelocity price that I couldn't beat by going through cruise.com, crucon, or icruise.

Cheers!

If you pick a specific cruise to look at in Travelocity, under the paragraph "your cruise includes" it does say that the price includes port charges.

There was just an article about this in the USA Today weekend edition. While websites must post exact fees on the first quote with airlines tkts the same rule does not apply with hotels, cruises, etc. and can be quite misleading. The gov't may pass a rule to get rid of this marketing strategy. In the meantime, I suggest getting a quote from www.cruisequick.com. I'm almost 100% certain they will beat Travelocity's rate and include all fees in their quotes. Happy cruising!

Thanks all..I'll check other websites. I did not complete my transaction with Travelocity, because I smelled a rat with the price quote. I don't want to deal with a sneaky company.

MANY net sites do not publish the port and taxes. When asking for a quote I always ask to have them listed and broken out. I don't think Travelocity is doing anything different than some other cruise travel sites. Check the advertisements in the news papers, same thing.
