Sunday in Livorno

I will be cruising on the NCL Jade and our stop for Florence will be on Sunday 25 January. As I have previously visited Florence, Pisa, Cinque Terre and Lucca, I would like to know if anyone has any other suggestions for the day. If all else fails I thought of spending the day in Lucca again. It is also my birthday and I would like to spend it somewhere I would always remember. It seems that everything is closed on a Sunday. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I think you might want to see what the weather is before making a firm plan. If it is significantly raining, there is very little to do indoors in Lucca on Sunday, except eat lunch. I don't know how many times you have visited Florence or what you have seen there, but most things are open, and there is really quite a range of things to do and see even if you are not interested in art museums. If you would be willing to reconsider Florence, you might get lots of responses for interesting things to do on a rainy day in Florence if you post on the Italy board.

If you are interested in spas, you might also consider one of the historic thermal spas that is in-between Livorno and Florence. Do some google searches for Montsummano Terme or Montecantini Terme.

Lastly, if you are interested in high end wine, you could probably arrange for a grand lunch and winery visit to one of "super-Tuscan" wineries in Bolgheri.

But it might be sunny that day, so my advice is to have a plan A and a plan B, and then pick once you've seen a short term weather forecast.

Have you been to a glove shop, it is quite the experience:

Martelli Glove Factory - belts and gloves in Florence

where: via Por Santa Maria, 18r (street going to Ponte Vecchio)

store hours: 10 - 7 Sunday 11 - 6:30

Martelli is a shop that is always full of tourists.
Part of the shop name is 'glove factory' and this is fitting.

This is because the shop offers good quality at competitive prices and has a very large selection (it also helps to be smack dab in the middle of the street leading to the Ponte Vecchio!)

But the gloves here are a very good middle road between a market quality glove and the higher-end goods such as Madova gloves (above).

Prices: start at €20ish

Or go to lonely planet and they have a follow Michaelangelo "tour" you can follow.

Google "secret Florence" and from those articles you may find something new.

I'm sure you looked at the jade's tours to see if there might be something you could do.

Depending on when you were last there, might be some new exhibits.

We did the 19 day Jade In Oct 2014 and revisited places we had been before after many years but have visited Barcelona, Valencia and Rome the past 3 years in a row on cruises and haven't gone back to the same sites, so check it out for Florence. Enjoy.

Thanks for the great advice. I will then decide on the day to go to either Lucca or Florence, but I was hoping to go somewhere where I have not been before.

Hi Henda, what a great way to spend your bday - on a cruise. Hope you have a wonderful cruise and bday as well.

Here is something you might consider:

http://www.joebananalimos.net/chiant...orno_port.html

A friend of mine did this tour w/ Joe Banana tours and loved it! It is different than seeing Florence again, etc.

Here is another tour guide that gets excellent reviews:

or how about a trip to Sienna?

http://www.unforgettabletuscany.com/company.html
This company gets excellent reviews & I think I would book his tour!
I am sure you could tailor a tour to your liking, perhaps do a wine tasting tour w/ a lovely bday lunch in a beautiful location. Company is located in Livorno which would be convenient.
