Song of Flower cruises calcelled?

I just saw the post from Hobo on the SOF - Irons available post, stating that SOF cruises have been calcelled. I think maybe Hobo is pulling my leg, but has anyone who is scheduled for the Nov. 24 and Dec.8 So. America cruises heard from rssc or their travel agents about this?
I am hoping someone can clarify this for me today and set my mind at ease until I can make some phone calls tomorrow.
Thanks, J

Radisson Seven Seas Cruises has announced the cancellation of the Song of Flower's South American season due to low occupancies. The ship will remain in Europe and re-enter service in April, 2003. The affected voyages are between November 3rd and April 14th. Sorry!
Hi Sandy,
Thank you for the info. last night. Just called Radisson and sad, but true, my cruise is cancelled. Iam so disappointed. It's less than 6 weeks away and all they are offering is $1000 p.p., plus all money refunded. Sandy, as a travel agent, do you think they should be offering more compensation?
What would you advise? Take it, or request more? I had already requested the time off work and started to pack. I almost cried last night.

Also, thanks to Hobo for first telling me this yesterday. What a disappointment for us.
J
Hi Joanne,

Sad to hear of your misfortune.

RSSC will mail you a coupon for $1,000 off your next cruise.

I would write a letter and tell them it is unacceptable. Follow up many, many times. You may be successful but RSSC is a tough nut to crack.

Good luck,

Paul

I do share your pain, believe me, Joanne. We are still in shock and have not had much luck in finding another booking that suits us at such a late date. All "dressed up and no place to go!"
I felt like a cad breaking the news; my TA was quicker to let me know and says the "packet" from RSSC is in the mail.
Thank you Paul for your advice to Joanne as we have been wondering the same thing.
Now tell me; do I want to use my credit on the Diamond?

Dear Joanne and Hobo,
I would hold out for more compensation. Do you have a TA? Are they well-connected? If so, get them to write to RSSC, or ask your TA to speak to his/her sales manager. if your agency books a lot of business with RSSC, you have a better chance of getting what you want. What are they doing to compensate you for your airline tickets? Did you buy them from the cruise line, I HOPE?

As for spending it on the Diamond, I'm not so sure. Although I love the Diamond, she is not doing the kind of fascinating itinerary that Flower was scheduled for in S. America. Isn't the Navigator doing S. America. However, the Navigator is doing S. America this winter, and that would be a wonderful choice.

As an aside, we received word from Seabourn that they are offering a $500.00 per suite shipboard credit to the passengers who got bumped from Song of Flower for certain sailings of the Seabourn Pride to S. America, but they do not begin until January.

One more thing, my choice for a "consolation cruise" from Radisson would be the Paul Gauguin in Tahiti. It is one of the best vacations ever -- gorgeous destination, gorgeous ship, fantastic food and service. Go. You'll love it.

Oh yes, that Tahiti cruise is extraordinary. I sailed the Paul Gauguin 3 years ago.

If it fits your schedule do not hesitate and use your $1,000 coupon.

Paul

Greetings Hobo, Paul % Sandy,
Well, my TA finally called yesterday while I was at work and informed my hubby of the cancellation. She told him for us to contact rssc for more compensation. He never handles these travel matters so he said OK and took the phone number. So I guess I will have to contact her and insist she handle this for us. I especially feel that we should get at least $1000 p.p. for each of the back to back cruises (Nov. 24 & Dec. 8) we booked. Hubby thinks that a free cruise would be adequate.
We have been on the P. Gauguin on the innaugural from S.F. to Tahiti and it was indeed a fantastic ship. We were on the Navigator from S.F. to Sydney in 2000 for the Olympics and again had a wonderful time on that ship.
Also been on the Diamond and the shakedown cruise in 2001 of the Mariner.
So the Song of Flower was the only rssc ship we hadn't been on and were really looking forward to this cruise to So. America. Especially since last year they cancelled the March 2001 Asia cruise on SOF we were booked on.
So, as you can see, we have been loyal rssc customers and think they should make a better compensation offer. Don't you? I welcome any thoughts/suggestions anyone has.
Joanne

Hobo here again. Haven't yet received the RSSC "packet" but was told by my TA that the $1000 certificates were good on any BUT the Gauguin! Of course that is the one that most interests us! You raised a good point with the Back-to-back consideration, Joanne, as we also were booked for two segments, starting at Barcelona and ending at Manaus (where we were to pass the wand to you!)
We have been great fans fo RSSC and love the way they handle customers. I hope they won't disappoint us. Incidientally they are owned by Carlson.
http://www.tripforce.com/home

Hi Joanne,

RSSC does not hand out money freely as in the past. I presume it is due to the economy. They also are not filling their ships. They even changed their cancellation penalties from the industry standard of "final payment" to 120 days before sailing.

Keep pursuing your quest to receive adequate compensation not only by phone calls but by letters.

Paul
