Landcruise Option for Alaska - Recommendations???

We are contemplating a landcruise prior to departing from Ancorage on Princess. Any recommendations as to the landcuise options. Should we do one lodge (if so, which) or more? Is this a good deal or not?

We hired a car and drove to Homer. It is a beautiful drive, very easy. Homer is an intresting small town, great art & crafts, wonderful fishing and a beautiful area to walk. We saw lots of wildlife, including grizzly bear, whales from the side of the road and lots of bird life. Well worth the trip.

Everyone is talking about Denali and it would be a good place to start. Make your own booking rather than through Princess as it will be cheaper. The Pricness landtour don't give you the "full" Denali experience.

As to getting to Whitter, Princess typically will have the passenegrs gathered at the Anchorage Convention Center and then they will bus you to Whittier (or by "Princess" train). You will have to pre-book with Princess though. I have found that it is a better way to get to Whittier than try to do it on my own.

It's definitely a great way to start the cruise. Heading to the pier via land is a wonderful way to appreciate the scenery.
