My wife and I sailed on the Legacy out of Puerto Rico a couple of years ago. Nothing like a "regular" cruise line. Very casual. Food is simple but decent. Ideal if you want to see many islands without being dumped off with 2000 other people. Scuba divers really like it because there is a dive excursion at almost every port. Rooms are extremely small, even for a cruise. Has almost a cult following from some people who sail Windjammer. Note that you don't really sail. The sails are up, and they help, but the engine is running too. Otherwise it would take forever to get from island to island.

My wife and I have done 3 'jammers, Yankee Clipper, Flying Cloud and Mandalay (13 dayer Antigua to Grenada) Yankee Clipper is my favorite ship (Grenada - Grenada). She is the smallest, prettiest and has the best feet (pure sailing). Flying Cloud is the next biggest and sails (motors) around the BVIs ( a big bath tub) fun trip.
We haad a great time on all three.

I sailed the Polynesia in Nov 1998 in the BVI - loved the islands but not the trip. Now, I did a "singles" cruise which certainly had a different ambience from other scheduled cruises, but there was absolutely no place on the ship to escape for a little solitude. The ships are small and the cabins are tiny [like a closet]. When the party was going on you could hear it everywhere. I knew all this going into to the cruise but still really wasn't prepared. Loved the BVI - no crowds, no tourist traps, no regimentation - but I'm not sure I'd do Windjammer again. They used to have a very active bulletin board at www.windjammer.com, but it got closed down for awhile after the Fantome sunk in the hurricane in 1998 [my trip was 3 weeks after the Fantome went down]. Don't know if it is back running or not.

Agree alot with John - you either love it or hate it. I met folks on the cruise who had sailed WJ dozens of times, but I won't go back.
The Ploy has the reputation og being the Party ship of the windjammer fleet, so we have stayed away from her.
We have actuall always found a "private" place to get away from the rest of the crowd. On both the Maandalay and the Yankee Clipper there are places at the stern where you can get pretty quite. On out 13 dayer on the Mandalay just about everynight we would go back with a drink and a cigar and just enjoy the quite and watch the fish in the water
I've taken numerous cruises, along with one singles WJ. The WJ was the most fun, especially since I'm very social and really enjoy meeting people when I travel. The passengers on a WJ are friendlier, more outgoing and outdoorsy. I love gettng dressed up on other lines but am just as confortable in a swim suit and shorts for a week. Have you taken other cruises and what are you looking for? Those answers will determine the type of cruise you should try.
