For my 50th, my sister and I (and our husbands) can't decide whether to go to Trinidad & Tobogo, Belize, or any other Caribbean island. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thank You!

Wow! Can you narrow it down some? That covers it all. What do you like to do, see, etc and when do want to go for starters?

Having never done this before (posted), I thought less was more. After reading thru the postings, I see my error!! Thank you for replying. We girls are fine sitting on a beach reading, drinking,snorkeling, nothing to taxing. OUr husbands are more active, and lying around is fine for a day, but after that they get antsy. We go with the flow. We have been to several caribbean islands. I guess we are deciding between Belize & T&T. I saw a post about sea grass in Belize. Do you know anything about that? Does it mean no sandy beaches? How about T&T? Sandy beaches? We are going in January 07 for 8 days. Thank you for your help!!

I'm afraid I haven't been to either so I can't be of much help. However I have read up a bit and for activities T and T would be better, esp. Trinidad which is culturally neat as there is a strong Indian presence there. I am sure good beaches can be found on either one and Belize too for that matter. Have you been to or considered Puerto Rico? This island has terrific beaches and also has diversity such as a rain forest, Old San Juan, colonial forts, etc. The Virgin islands is also a good choice, esp. for those on the go. You can ferry to practically all of the other USVI's or BVI's.
Another consideration is the Caribbean side of Mexico, south of Cancun. You will find nice beaches abd there is a ton to do from there too such as:
1. Exploring Mayan ruins at Chitzen Itza and Tulum
2. Taking a ferry to Cozumel and/or Isla de Mujeres
3. Exploring ecological parks at Xel Ha and Xcaret.
4. Party time or dining in Cancun.
5. Golf.

I've been to Belize. We did the trip in two parts, 4 nights in Cayo (the jungle) and 3 nights on the water in Ambrigris (sp?). I loved the jungle portion, the beach was disappointing. There is alot of sea grass and I don't remember being able to go into the water. I think there are other parts of Belize that have better beacehes, but I'd pass on Ambrigris. In both settings, there's lots of day trips to do and plenty to keep the guys busy. I highly recommend the jungle if you go to Belize. It was my first experience and I thought I'd creep out with all the bugs and lack of electricity, but I remember it as one of my most unique vacations.

For my 50th, we went to Tortola and loved it. Its close enough to other Islands that you can go explore a different island every day (Peter Island, Jost Van Dyke, Virgin Gorda, St. John,...) Activies there were more related to water activites--snorkling, sailing, sunbathing. Don't know what kind of activites the guys could find.

I plan on retiring in a few years to Ambergris Caye, so my bias is pretty obvious. There is sea grass in the water, some of the resorts have cleared it away so in some places there is decent walk in swimming. The sand is white and soft, the water is blue, and lots of good swimming of the resorts piers. Even some ok snorkeling from the piers, we've seen nurse sharks, lots of rays, even a moray eel, and loads of other fish.

Numerous options for snorkel trips, fishing, trips to the mainland for tours of the ruins or caves.

All that said you won't find the perfect white beaches of Anguilla or Turks.

On the other hand, Tobago is on my 'short list' of places to visit.
