What to do for the day in St. Maarten

We are cruising to St. Maarten for the day shortly. Are there any good beaches, restaurants, bars, etc. near the port? Anything fun to do for the day nearby? Thanks so much.

Brian

Not real close to the port, but Orient Beach is a great beach. Don't let people scare you away with storied of nudity. The nude beach is waaaaaaay down at the end. The beach is gorgeous and so is the water. Take a taxi.

I have been to St. Maarten many times and my husband and I love Baie Rouge Beach which is almost on the French Side. It is a lovely little beach with a restaurant and bar. You can rent chairs and umbrellas for $5.00 each. Check out Marigot, the capital on the French Side if you have time also. Have fun. The people are very friendly.

there are many restaurants and shops in philipsburg where the ship docks. a lot of people just hang out there. some people go to other beaches. the closest nicest bech is at Oyster Pond.. there are some great beachside restaurants there too
another popular thing to do is take the Americas Cup yachts out for a race. a lot of fun and you don't have to know a thing about sailing
enjoy!

I was in St Martin last week on a cruise. On the cruise ship, they warned us not to rent scooters, jetskis or go parasailing. We did all three and had a blast.
There are nice beaches close to the port, but few activities. For water sports Orient Beach is the place to be. We got there in about twenty minutes, seeing livestock wandering about on the way.
We covered the entire island in a day without a map. There are very few trees on St. Martin, so bring sunscreen.
Another thing you could do is take a cab to Marigot (the capitol of the French side). The outdoor market is nice to visit on a Wednesday or Saturday.

If you leave the Phillipsburg area, just be sure to leave yourself plenty of time to return in case there is traffic.

You could also hire a cab to get a tour of the island.

I live near SXM, so I thought I'd throw in some more advice.

Another thing you could do is take a cab to Marigot (the capitol of the French side). There's shopping, dining, bars, people watching, a beach, etc. You could stay busy there, as most cruise tourists do, and never have to hire a cab. The Greenhouse is a nice place to sit and have a good beer.

Enjoy yourselves!
