Vieques-Wyndham Martineau Bay
Leaving for Vieques on the Aug 13th for a needed 10 day vacation. I have not seen any reviews on the new property. Has anyone been? Some favorable reviews on trip advisor but..... I just rented a new Jeep Wrangler for $55 a day-seems high but I called around and it was the best I could get. Got a great deal at the resort though, $227/night with 2 free nights (taxes, fees incl.) Wyndham by request rate. Going to take M&N from Isla Grande over and Air Sunshine back to SJU International. Booked BioBay for a tour and plan on exploring the beaches the rest of the time unless anyone has any suggestions.

Also planning a similar trip to PR and Vieques and also interested in this and other Wyndhams in the area. What is "wyndham by request", and can't you get a better package deal from a travel agent? (air, car, hotels)

To slynkyy--We plan on going for 8 days in October. Got same deal. How do you contact M&N and Air Sunshine. Would rather fly over than take the ferry. Can you take Air Sunshine both ways and what does air fare cost
To cfsax--If you go to www.martineaubay.com it will explain Wyndham by request and what you get. Doesn't cost anything and you can posibbly get a free upgrade if available. I joined by E-mail yesterday. You can also find other Wyndhams in Puerto Rico on this site. Martineau has a fall special which includes air but I found I beat that price by about $200 by booking myself. If you stay three nights you get one free night--Eight nights and get two free.--That is at the $227 rate

Don't think it makes any difference when you book. With 150+ rooms don't think it will be a problem but wouldn't wait until the last minute. I booked for end of Oct yesterday. For three nights they will charge you one night deposit. You might as well make it a long weekend as you get a free fourth night if you stay three. www.vieques-island.com is a good web site for all sorts of info

I am back! First of all the hotel is very nice. The rooms are really Big! The furnishings are quality. The beds were so comfy and the sheets nice along with down comforters (which are nice with all the air conditioning). We had an ocean front room and it was stunning. Each room has a veranda or patio with chairs and ottomans. The showers are huge and double vanities. I had a double room but the air broke and we moved to the ground floor with a king and a roll away bed. They could have fit three more roll aways if needed. The staff are all very service oriented and will do whatever you request. The manager James is very accomodating. The concierge Hilda is also very nice and well versed. The new spa is small but beautiful. The gym has all new equipment and was perfect. The two beaches on the property were groomed and beautiful. They will bring you an umbrella if you want it. The Pool was pretty but on the small side. There is a swim up bar with about 8 seats that the kids loved and ate at with Hector and Erik who were just great and patient with the kids. The island is so quaint and the people so friendly. The only draw back to the hotel was the prices for food and drinks. $70 for breakfast for 4! Drinks at $9 a pop. I quickly learned to go to the store for everything! There really are wild horses running around every where. I have to agree the biobay trip was the most unique thing I have ever done. It was unbelievable (www.biobay.com) Island adventures did a great job (Frank) Warning---I do not recommend Air Sunshine....nice web site but bad bad bad service. I lost 250.00 because the weather was bad the day I was to fly out and they said I had a 50/50 chance of going but would not refund my money. I had to take the ferry and a cab so I would be guaranteed to make my flight from San Juan. Go with either M&N or Vieques air link. Another guest had to wait for 5 hours for the airsunshine flight to leave San Juan. Flying is much easier than the hour+ ferry plus the hour and 1/2 drive to San Juan. M&N was very good. See www.travelandsports.com/al.htm for all the airline numbers. Calling is very inexpensive because it is "part of the US". I had some great meals at Chez Shack, Tropico, and at the hotel the last night. There is a bakery in Isabel that makes good sandwiches-across from Media luna. The beaches are all incredible. I felt very safe at all times even in the most remote places. I had such a great time could not have asked for more. Two more websites to visit are www.enchanted-isle.com/vieques/morevieq.htm which has a very informative monthly magazine. and www.vieques-island.com. I also visited the Inn on the blue horizon which was very lovely and romantic. This island has no no no night life so if you want that then dont go. Also Martineau car rentals was the best. Back to reality.......
