Trip Report on Barbados - The Good and the Bad

Just returned from a 7 day trip to Sand Acres on the south coast of Barbados. Good points were the weather( very hot ), nice beaches ( waves to play in), and caterer Leroy ( best food we found on south coast ). Bad points: had a "unknown animal" in our kitchen, and had to have room changed , children who aren't potty trained are not allowed in pool, even with swim diapers, hotel and airport staff have little patience and are a bit rude.
Overall, save your money and try some place else.

According to the website of the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC):
"DO NOT count solely on swim diapers or pants to stop accidents from leaking into the pool. These products are not leakproof."
I think that the hotel's policy against nonpotty-trained kids has public safety in mind. There have been serious e. coli outbreaks in public pools lately.

Maybe you should look for hotels with kiddie pools that would at least keep the risk confined to one area.
Hmm...changed your tune from a previous post when you went into detail about how your child wasnt allowed in the pool with diapers and you put it in there anyway.

I guess your "trolling" for sympathy.

No, not trolling for sympathy, just trying to pass along dome details. I couldn't find my other "detailed " trip report so I put this one in a second time. And just to clarify, the pool my son was not allowed in was a seperate kiddie pool, not attached to the adult pool.I also agree that my son should have stayed out of the adult pool, and he did. This site is for personal opinions...take it or leave it. Parents who have small children who love the water should be informed to save on disappointment.

Stewing in others' juices, whether in a kiddie pool or a hot tub, is not particularly amusing. Just because you're a parent, should not make you so presumptive of others....

Was there no beach there, or was it not calm? We don't even have a pool where we usually stay, we go to the Caribbean for the sea
Well Jenilyn...... no sympathy from me.

In your original post (which the moderators removed) you were quite proud of the fact that even though hotel management had refused to allow your kiddie into the pool wearing swim diapers you proceeded to take him in anyway. You even stated that you in effect dared hotel management to remove you.

I said it before and I will gladly say it again...... STAY HOME!

Other vacationers do not need to swim in a pool contaminaged by the urine and feces of your child. Why should I and my fellow travellers risk E.coli sickness because you show a total lack of RESPECT for others. There was a clearly posted hotel rule, but you chose to ignore it and show just how boorish your behaviour is.

When you learn the meaning of the word RESPECT, and show it to others, then you will be ready to travel with others. Until then, STAY HOME!!!!!

Respectful.

I am going to Barbados in June -- have you heard or did you see the Almond Beach club? Any suggestions for nite clubs or bars to go to at nite? Any suggestions would be great.

Jenilyn,

I read your original post (cant find either) and wanted to know if your problem was with the hotel only, or with Barbados itself. From what I read, I am assuming it was with the hotel. As I recall this was a last minute trip. How much research was done before you decide to go.

Oh how the fur does fly. Yes, I took my son in the kiddie pool ( ie: not for adults so don't have to worry about e-coli if you don't go in ), after being told no, because other parents with small ones were in it as well. To my fellow Canuck...take off eh ! When I travel, I respect all rules, customs, and local policy. What I was trying to get through about the hotel, was that I took the time to find out why children couldn't go in, previously, and was told no means no, even though other children my son's age were in the pool. Any parent of a small child, how do I say this delicatley, knows their child's system. If there was a chance of an accident, we wouldn't have taken him in the pool, and other travellers were more than happy to make room for us. Free speech...
To ajay, it was a trip that was researched. The hotel was our problem. I find the people of Barbados somewhat reserved, but usually no problems. It's very expensive in Barbados, especially food, but some of the local restaurants have great deals. Leroy's catering gave huge portions for $10. BDS. I would highly recommend him.

Silly people!
Don't you know that the rules are for everyone EXCEPT jenilynn?
This is reason #697 that whenever possible, I go to places with few small children.
It's usually the parents with bad behavior as opposed to the kids - e.g. jenilynn setting a wonderful example by simply refusing to follow rules.
Why am I not surprised she found "hotel and airport staff have little patience and are a bit rude?"
I'm sure other than putting her little darling in the pool after being asked not to, she was a model guest - NOT!
Jenilynn,
If you ", how do I say this delicatley, knows my child's system" then you would know that regardless of how predictable you think your childs bowel habits are, accidents happen. You're on vacation, change of diet, change of water, change in sleep habits etc can all cause surprizes, can't they.
I think maybe it's time for you to back down. You are wrong on this issue and you just keep backing yourself further into that corner.
Barbados is a lovely island, Sand Acres is a nice, economical place to stay. If you wanted to take your son in the water you have all the beaches you can want virtually at your doorstep. Stop whining or stay home.
