Not sure about rentals - you might ask your father-in-law to call Courts or TDC - they may be able to help you. One other suggestion, Nevis has a strong Ex-Pat community and since your F-I-L has a house on the island perhaps he could contact several friends or neighbors to see if you can borrow what you need.

I have to put in this suggestion: I have been so happy with my TriplePlay convertible carseat/stroller which is also an FAA approved seat for your baby on an airplane. It can accomodate a child up to 40 lbs and I have to say it has been a Godsend in our travels. It is a bit pricey (@$199) but it is useful for several years. Plus, you don't have to subject your child to rented carseats which can be inappropriate for your child's age and nasty from overuse. I think it is a great investment.

Can't help you with rentals but, when our kids were that age, we got duffel bag-type carriers for their car seats and checked them as luggage (the bags, not the kids, that is). There's a lot of extra space in them where you can pack clothes, diapers and other non-breakable stuff. For combination playpens/cribs, we brought "pack and plays" and checked them with our luggage too. Since you have relatives there, you might also consider shipping a barrel down ahead of time. I'm not sure where you live but, in the NY area, a barrel costs about $20 and it costs about $70 to ship one to most islands in the Caribbean.

You will want to take your own stroller in order to get the baby through the airport. If you have a stroller that your car seat fits into, then that is great. You can check both pieces at the door of the plane and they will be at the door of the plane when you get off. This doesn't count toward your baggage allowance. So that takes care of stroller and car seat.
As for a travel crib, I found a cool one here:

Type in peapod and you will find it. It will probably be cheaper than renting one there.
Good luck!
