Topless

I like to go topless with my husband and want to know what island is the best. We have been to Negril and like it but want to go somewhere else. Any ideas?

French Caribbean. In Martinique on Les Salines beach, some beach vendors were also topless, they were selling swimwear.

This question always brings a lot of interesting answers and opinions.

As other posters mentioned, any of the French Caribbean islands - St Barts, Martinique, St Martin, etc.

Another place that it is very common is the Mexican Caribbean - Isla Mujeres, Tulum, Playa del Carmen.

Most Caribbean islands of British or US history have made it illegal, and they range from strictly enforcing it to not enforcing it at all. Some resorts allow it while the island generally does not. Some islands have topless/nude beaches while the resorts frown on it.

I try to respect the laws of whereever I am visiting. If I am staying at a private walled villa, the pool area and the villa I treat as C/O if we are not visible to other villas.

If I am staying on an island where it is common, but families come to the beach on weekends, then I cover up when they are there.

If I am staying on an island where it is not generally accepted, I keep my top on unless we find a secluded beach where we are completely alone.

I think it's important to be sensitive to the customs and values and expectations of travel as a guest in another country.

Another vote here for the French side of St. Martin. On Orient Beach, anything goes. It is widely accepted, even in our hotel's private plunge pools.
Have fun!

Just adding my agreement with most of the previous posters.

Just wanted to add that even some islands where toplessness is not the norm in general, you can frequently find areas where it is fine--you found that out in Negril, for example. Another is the beautiful Hawksbill Beach #4 in Antigua which is the only clothing optional beach on that island.

I enjoy sunbathing topless, and if I can find a secluded enough spot where I won't give offense to anybody, I sometimes indulge--usually in a villa setting or on a deserted beach.
