Tips for St. Barths?
My husband and I are leaving on Wednesday for a week in St. Barth's. We are very excited! Does anyone who has traveled there recently have any hints - which restaurants to go to first? which are the best beaches? etc.??? Also, anything that will make our first trip there more memorable?

There are many beautiful beaches - Salines, Gouverneur, Colombier, Flamands. These beaches don't have facilities. Colombier is accessible only by boat or by a 20 minute walk on a hillside footpath. St. Jean beach is probably the most popular beach on the island, good for people-watching and with lots of conveniences nearby.
One nice but sometimes overlooked thing to do is take a car ride up to Colombier, where there is a lookout point with a fabulaous panoramic view.

All the beaches Paul mentioned are beautiful. I especially like Flamands. It seems to be endless, and it was very private when we were there (2 years ago). It's a bumpy/curvy ride getting there, but it's worth it.
If you're looking for good Italian food, Le Patio in St. Jean is excellent. We went twice! The wait staff is very friendly and the atmosphere is relaxed. Eden Rock is also very good, but pricey.
Have a great trip. St. Barths is an amazing (and very relaxing) island!
By the way, many stores and restaurants close during Sept. and Oct., so don't be surprised if you find limited shopping/dining options.

Don't miss Saline beach! The water is pure turquoise blue and white sand beach- looks like the south pacific. Bou Bou's is a great spot for lunch- food is excellent. We enjoyed our dinners at La Langouste and our hotel's restaurant (at Isle de France)- both up on Flamands beach. Shopping in St. Jean is good- alot of boutiques. Rent a jeep! It's fun running around the island in it-- you can get around the whole island in less than a 1/2 hour. Have a great time. It's the best of the caribbean!
