Very different just with terraine alone. St. John is green and more lush with hills and great vistas of other nearby islands with each twist and turn. Provo is flat arid and not especially pretty other than in the resort area. St. John has 2 resorts and only one is truly beachfront. The Westin is on a man made beach and there are no accomodations directly on the beach. Provo has all the resorts and condos spread along one lucious beach while St. John is nooks and coves for beaches mostly in the National Park. Neither is very touristy but St. John offers trips and exploring lots of nearby busy islands like St. Thomas or Tortola and some great ones in the BVI. There are some inhabited cays and islands in the TCI but nothing more adventuresome but certainly delightfully remote. St. John restaurants are IMO better than Provo and would venture to say St. John might be a bit less expenive with dining out. More funky fun in Cruz Bay and Coral Bay than there is on Provo. Better snorkeling from the beaches on St. John but both have fantastic snorkeling at sites off island. Provo hasn't had the wear and tear of the dive/snorkel sites that St. John has over the years but it is catching up quickly.

I agree with CF.
Provo and Anguilla are extremely similar in many ways.
My two faves - the friendly people and gorgeous beaches on both!
Neither are similar to St. John in terms of landscape or activities.
The main similarity would be that all 3 are not touristy.
