suggestions for a family vacation in the Caribbean in June?
I am trying to find a destination, and then a good place to travel with my family mid June. I wanted to go to Cayman but my husband is afraid that he will get bored on the beach the whole day, he would like to visit something else besides the beach (E.g. like Mexico - but we already went there, and would like to try something new). I thought about Costa Rica, but I am scared it would be rainy and my kids will not enjoy the beach. Somebody suggested Puerto Rico. Any advice as far as resorts which are not too touristic? Any other destination advice?
thank you,
thank you,

"Your husband is right about Cayman Islands."
No he's not. There are plenty of things to do on Grand Cayman without just sitting on the beach and it's a great destination.
Take an Island tour and visit the turtle farm, hell, the west end, Pedro St. James and the blow holes. Spen a day at Rum Point and snorkel. Book a catamaran trip and swim with the sting rays. Book a jet ski/aqua boat tour and snorkel the wreck of Cali. Shopping and dining in Georgetown, rent a car and get a good map and snorkel all of the off shore hot spots, visit the botantical gardens, take either the Natutlias semi-sub or the full submarine. Take the kids on the Jolly Pirate.
There really is plenty of things to do to you keep you busy if that's what you want. We've been to Grand Cayman twice and loved it. Wouldn't hesitate to go back someday.
Another suggestion would be Aruba. Plenty of things to see and do there also. The Marriott is very family friendly.

Re Puerto Rico as with all of the Caribbean islands there is a chnace of rain at some point in the day - the good news is it's usually over fast - just check the UV index for each day - exceptions would be if a large tropical storm was close by.
as for things to do look at hotels in San Juan area (Condado / Isla Verde that are on the beach - Comrad Plaza, la Concha, San Juan Marriott, El San Juan). Consider renting a car for part of your time in Puerto Rico.
Must sees:
Old San Juan - 2 forts, small cathedral, several plaxas, museums, lots of restaurants - more info here http://www.visit-the-coqui.com/2008/...n-juan-part-1/
El Yunque rainforest (45mins east of San Juan) - several trails to hike and options to do zipline tours, river trekking, quad biking near by (as well as other areas of PR) - more info here http://www.visit-the-coqui.com/2010/...aline-junkies/
Luquillo beach is near El Yunque as is a really nice beach
You could do a day trip to Culebra Island or Vieques Island as they have really nice beaches are not touristy
If the moon phase is right you could also do a Bio-Bay tour and if not maybe a snorkel tour - more info http://www.visit-the-coqui.com/2010/...d-kayak-tours/
other ideas would be to drive south or into the centreal region - guavate is a good spot on a weekend for local Puerto Rican food and music - very popular with the locals
there is mire ideas and info on the site of the above links
hope that helps

We picked Puerto Rico because it had a lot to offer in terms of variety, was easy to get to and around and was reasonably priced. Details can be found at my trip report:
