STT-getting around from Marriott
We will be in St. Thomas for 3 nights for a quick getaway @ Marriott Frenchman's. We have been there 1x before while on a cruise. Visited only Coki beach. Should we consider a Jeep rental for a day? Is there some other form of local transportation to check out the island?

i would definetly want transportation if staying at marriott. no need for a jeep though - they are more expensive.
st. t does have a island small open bus system, but not sure it comes into marriott. it does not go everywhere. rental co should be able to bring car to you or pick up at airport is easy.

If you plan on exploring the island and hitting various beaches...you will definitely want to rent a car for the day as the taxi rates (fixed)are very high. There is a small boat (my kids call it "the little ferry that could" that will run you from the Marriott to downtown for lunch or shopping for a minimal charge (used to be $5.00).
If, however, you are going to hit one beach on one day and not dine off of the Marriott property...then just get a cab to/from your destination. As far as I know, the open air buses do not run to/from the Marriott.
Make sure you are on the pool deck in the late afternoon when the ships pull out. They are so close you feel like you could touch them.
We love it there.
Enjoy.

Thanks for the responses. Sounds like a rental car is a good idea. Our flight gets in around 8pm; wondering if it would be a bad idea to drive from airport to hotel...in the dark....is it far?

taxi to the hotel and have your car brought there the next morning. the drive is not long but it's on the left, you'll be jet lagged and hungry, you must drive through downtown. all in all it could be a bit confusing.
also arriving that late i would phone one of the restaurants at marriott and reserve a table or have sandwiches delivered to your room.
havana blue in the morning star section of marriott is imho the best restaurant on island. try if you get a chance.
