I'm considering a solo trip in November. I was thinking of Bermuda as I've never been and it's a short flight from the East coast. Has anyone taken a solo vacation to Bermuda? Or would I feel out of place in such a "romantic" destination? I enjoy the outdoors, sightseeing, tennis, walking etc.

I personally feel feel that Bermuda is perfect for a solo traveler. It does offer a great destination with a short flight from the East coast. The Railway Trail and South Shore beaches are perfect for walking. Can’t speak to the tennis. Tons of history to explore.

hi lotus, just so you know ahead the temperature in nov on bermuda runs 65-low 70's. 60-65 at night. and you are not in the caribbean so the water will be cool as well. if the beach is to be part of your trip you may want to head further south. i would suggest st.john for safe, close to fly and plenty of walking. sightseeing means what to you? beaches and birds or buildings? you might call a local travel agent and ask them to list the islands you can fly directly to from your airport.

Is St. John's safe for a single woman? I would like to go to the Caribbean next spring but hesitate to go solo. (I'm 62 so it's crime that worries me more than anything else). I've considered Bermuda but it seems a bit pricey and friends have told me it's really best for couples.

I would think Bermuda would be fine for a solo trip! Lots to see and do, a vibrant sophisticated island. You would not feel out of place at all.
A neighbor of ours years ago always traveled solo to The Waterloo House, just met a solo traveler on our flight in July staying in Salt Kettle.

I have also been to St. John, Bermuda
is much easier to get around, the bus system is excellent. St. John is very very rural--lovely, mosty national park.
I love St. John--but as a solo traveler I would select Bermuda.

Bermuda is definitely not a couples only destination. It also has a vast selection of less expensive places to stay.

I am copying the reply I posted on the solo travel board, but want to add some comments.
Travel to BDA does not have to be expensive. There is a marvelous travel service which allows tax free rentals of rooms and cottages all over the island. www.bermudarentals.com It is very possible to find accomdation with access to a kitche for under $100 a night.
Shop at Miles Market for a wide variety of fresh foods and good takeaway.

"Hello, Lotus. I travel to Bermuda solo on a regular basis. My next trip will be solo in December, a favorite time to visit. I have been travelling there alone since 1972...haven't missed a year yet.
I never have felt out of place in BDA despite the romantic feel of the place. It is just simply one of the most beautiful places I have ever visited.
I ride my moped, hike the Railway trail, take the ferry, enjoy great meals, hit the fabulous beaches (even during winter, I put on a sweat shirt, take a book and a blanket and have one of the most beautiful views in the world) and generally have a wonderful time. I even fit in some shopping to avoid the XMAS crowds at home. Glorious place, you will love it."

lena and lotus, i would also like to suggest provo (providenciales) in turks and caicos. small island. very easy to get around. 11 mile long grace bay beach has some of the softest and whitest sand imaginable. wonderful hotels and condo/hotels all directly on grace bay beach. loads of restaurants of all types and price ranges. extremely safe!! not really much sightseeing unless you are into nature. not a cheap island but deals are good in nov and by mid april. provo is a flat, coral island. enough greenery and gorgeous bougainvillea, but not lush and hilly. world class dining,really good snorkeling, great bonefishing and peacefullness are the main draws to these islands. their motto is "beautiful by nature"
