San Juan to St. Lucia to Barbados - Oh My God!

OK. I must be missing something. I am in the very early stages of planning a trip to the Caribbean. We want to go to St. Lucia and Barbados. I am getting costs for the inter-island flights from Travelocity of $300 - $600 with about a thousand stops! So what am I doing wrong? I assume that we would fly into San Juan and then take a charter flight to SLU and then to Barbados? Which company and method should we use to get in between islands that isn't going to cost an arm and a leg?

Charters will cost you an arm and a leg. Fly American Airlines to either St. Lucia or Barbados. Then take LIAT or Caribbean Star (regional airlines) to St. Lucia. From there, return to the other island or fly home, OR fly home from either St. Lucia or Barbados.

Some of the other major airlines may offer flight to Barbados. I'm not sure if any have flights to St. Lucia (at least from the U.S.) other than AA.

We've done this same flight pattern several times.

Use a major US carrier to get you to San Juan or Barbados.
Use a Caribbean carrier like Caribbean Star or Liat to island hop. The island flights aren't cheap in many cases.
Total cost will likely be over $450 unless you're starting from Florida or other southeastern US point of origin.

Hi tifany8,

Don't forget to checkout Air Jamacia. They have some non-stop flights from some cities, or you stop in Jamacia, on the way to St.Lucia. You fly into the larger International Airport Hewannora located in the Southern part of St.Lucia.
I did notice for us out of Chicago, all American's flights that arrive in St.Lucia via-San Jaun, arrive late evening 8:00pm-ish And departure from St.Lucia, American flights leave very early morning like 6:00a.m. You might want to consider this loss of day time in St.Lucia with those flights.
Air Jamacia's flights usually Arrive in St.Lucia 2:30/3:00ish. And departure is late afternoon 3:00pm-ish. This just gives you just a little more time.
I did read of another airline that was soon to add non-stop flights to St.Lucia out of some major cities in US and there flight times looked really good. I think it was Northwest Airlines.

Good luck,
Donna

You didn't say where you are coming from but you can fly directly to either Barbados or St. Lucia from several major cities without going through SJU. You can then probably book a flight directly to you "second" island on one of the island hoppers such as LIAT, AA Eagle, Caribbean Star, Carribean Sun (I'm not sure which ones service both St. Lucia and Barbados).

When flying to St. Lucia on Air Jamaica years back, we HAD to stop in Barbados first....they may still fly that pattern.
