Questions about Puerto Rico (a revision of an earlier post as per a reply)
I have read several of the messages, posts and replies of what to see where to go and what to do; I will be traveling to PR (with female friend) and staying in Dorado. She has visited PR a few times, however not in the past 25years. We are both in our forty's. I have a few questions...
1. Is there ferry service to San Juan from dorado?
2. What should be avoided in San Juan...clubs, bars, restruants particular areas (streets etc.)? We both drink modeerately (on vacation)...where should we go to dance and have a good time? Where to avoid.
3. Same question for Old San Juan, Dorado, and Ponce.
4. What beaches should be avoided.
5. We both drink modeerately (on vacation)...where should we go to dance and have a good time? Where to avoid.
6. I am led to believe that the only nightlife is in Ssan Juan...Is this true?
7. I have been told there are several "clubs", "bars" that are either gay/lesbian/swingers...We do not wish to visit these establishments...can you list any to avoid...throughout PR.
8. It appears many people vist the "local" attractions...does anyone have a no-so-known spot to visit and why?
Your antisipated support is greatly appreciated. Bill
Thankyou to all of you whom responded to the previous.

Hi,
I'd suggest you get 1 guide to PR - the Lonely planet ($16). It has some valuable info on where and where not to go. In particualar, don't go into la Perla, the neighborhood outside the old san juan wall on the north side between the 2 forts, also known as the most scenic slum in the world. I wasn't wild about the beaches in the Pinones area - too many trash bins. The not so known spot we visited that would be a short drive for you if you rent a car is about 4 miles east of the city of Arecibo on the north cost is Indina Cave (Cueva del Indigo, or something like that) which is a lovely cave right on the water with some nice coastal formations and petroglyphs. I'd suggest you rent a car if there's parking at your hotel, since taxis to Condado will cost you $40-60, while Dollar or Thrifty have online rates at $20/day.
