Planning a Caribbean Honeymoon...need help...

My fiance and I are getting married in August 2011. We know that August is in the middle of hurricane season in the Caribbean but we have our hearts set on going there for our honeymoon and want to go right after our wedding. We're looking for a 5 star luxury resort with a great spa. We're in our early 30's and are looking to spend a lot of time at the beach, go fishing, do some shopping and enjoy great food. We're not big on clubs, but some night life would be nice. We'd ideally like to find an all inclusive resort that offers all of this, but understand that that may not be possible. We're currently considering Turks & Caicos (Ganesvoort & Veranda resort), Saint Lucia (Jade Mountain), Saint Thomas (Ritz Carlton), Virgin Gorda (Little Dix Bay). Any thoughts on the resorts that I have listed or suggestions on other 5 star luxury resorts to consider? ? ? Any thoughts on which of the locations I've listed are least likely to be hit by a hurricane?

st. lucia is least likely to experience hurricane (of your options)
little dix is on a veeeery quiet island. no shopping or nightlife.
ritz is gorgeous but quite a distance from charlotte amalie where most partying goes on & where you'd find tons of duty free shopping. 45+min drive - ok for a day of shopping but not so much if you want to taxi to the bars. you would be near red hook which has low key nightlife.
t&c would offer best dining options but not much shopping. i think this might be a good choice, although i would not do ai because there are so many great places to eat. gorgeous beach with oh so soft sand that does not get hot. has good bonefishing.
since you're going in august you should get trip insurance that covers hurricanes. i believe grand cayman's resorts all offer built in trip insurance. this might be a good choice for you as it has nice beach, good shopping and a good selection of restaurants all in one area. no ai's in this part of the island.
deep sea fishing available from any island & mexico.
hope this helps.

Thank you both for your comments. I think I've narrowed it down to Turks & Caicos or Saint Lucia. I had never heard of Jalousieplantation before, it looks beautiful! Have you ever stayed there? I like that there are several restaurants onsite and some of villas come with their own pool.

The beaches in Turks & Caicos sound amazing and out of my options I know that Saint Lucia would be my best bet to avoid a hurricane. I'd like a resort that has several restaurants etc. as we may want to go exploring one or two of the days we are there but would ideally like to have several dining options etc. onsite at the resort as I think we will spend most of our time relaxing wherever we stay.

Thank you so much again!

i think you should consider Angullia. Great 5 star resorts, fantastic food, and some shopping. The best beaches around. I would suggest Cuisinart or Cap Jalucsa, however my preference would be Cuisi. It is very romantic!

On Turks & Caicos look at The Regent Palms...you mentioned a Spa on site ..theirs is rated as one of the best in the world. From the Palms you can walk to many dining locations , the staff is excellent , beautiful beach and stunning condos. Also, next door is the beautiful Somerset on Grace bay..we have stayed at both of these..you can not go wrong.
The Veranda is new but, the food gets mixed reviews .

Between T & C and St. Lucia, T & C will have the better beaches. Neither was good for any nightlife except what the resort offered. St. Lucia is a gorgeus Island with lots of lush and waterfalls. The draw there is sightseeing more than sitting on the beach. T & C is all about water sports and Grace Bay. Both are complete opposites of each other, so really depends on what you are looking for. St. Lucia would be a better choice in hurricane season.

I would also suggest looking at Barbados and Aruba. Better beaches than St. Lucia and considered outside of the hurricane belt.

If you interested here's the link to our picture page. We've been to all the Islands you are considering plus several more.

I am also getting married in August 2011 and we have decided on T&C for our honeymoon. We're staying at the West Bay Club, based on glowing recommendations from friends who stayed there in 2010 and this review I read on the Fodors forums:

Both are great options but I am a T&C guy - simply for the beaches. Truly among the best in the world. It gets knocked for having "nothing else to do" (which some people like) but in fact there are many options for non beach activities - golf, spas, casino, tours of the outer islands and yes, even some nightlife and shopping. Of course great diving and snorkeling, too. Plus, great restaurants. The nice thing about TCI is its compact size too - no long drives to get anywhere, and even a boat ride to North Caicos is only 25 minutes.
