I just returned from Palm Island and it was fabulous!!! I have been to 21 islands in the carribean and this one rates number one! A honeymoon there would be pure bliss. The rooms are excellent, the food is awesome and the beaches are the best Ive seen!!! I have not one complaint. Go to Palm Island..please say hello to Chef Jack and the bartender name Christian. All the staff are very friendly!

Sheryl, I would love to hear more about Palm Island. What accommodation did you stay in? The plantation rooms or cottages? How as the dining set up? Any room service? Were the dinners in a communal atmosphere or could they be private? We have stayed at PSV (& loved it) so we sailed past Palm but that was before it was sold & redone.
Fran, we flew from Barbados to Union Island, then Palm is just a few minutes in a boat across the lagoon. You can windsurf from Palm to Union, it is that close & we saw people doing it....of course they were experienced windsurfers! But just to give you an idea of it's location.

I just looked at the Palm Island website recommended...frankly the prices are incredibly high off season for a resort that lists horseshoes as a top activity. And that is really, really tough to get to! I think places like PSV and Young Island in the same region seem more reasonable and have more variety of things to do. Any feedback out there from anyone who has been to several of these places...

We went to Palm Island for our honeymoon in 1990 and 4 more times when it was owned by John and Mary Caldwell.

It is an "adventure" getting there from NH but the island/club was perfect in every way - congenial owners, warm & friendly staff, nice rooms with romantic outside showers, food (fabulous), beautiful beach...in short it was like being on your own private island (at one point there were only 2 other guests there).

Our last trip was in 2000 under the new ownership and we could not have been more disappointed. Indeed it is obvious that that have spent much $ on renovations but the rooms and the layout are virutally the same, there is now a pool. The food was also fabulous.

Perhaps the fact that it is now ALL INCLUSIVE explains why it took an hour or more to be served a 2nd drink in the bar.

The insect problem is terrible (we had ants crawling in our bed at night and on the walls) and the air conditioning was inadequate and did not work part of the two weeks we were there.

It broke our hearts to see the Palm Island had become part ofthe "resort business". We have searced long and hard to find a similar small, quiet, intimate place at a reasonable price ($300-$500/nite).

We were introduced to the current owner (Rob Barrett) when we were there and his demeanor is warm and welcoming but compared to the old Palm Island it is overpriced ($800/nite).

The Grendadines are indeed beautiful islands - don't miss the area.

If you have any specific questions, please e-mail back.
