MUSTIQUE/BEQUIA/BARBADOS Info needed ...please
Hi,
I will be travelling to this area in April 05 and will be staying at the Cotton House for 7 nights, heres the dilema,3 nights in either Barbados or Bequia at the begining of the trip or the end ?
I usually do not like the "large" carribean islands,stayed at BARBUDA over ANTIQUA, NEVIS over ST KITTS , VIEQUES over PUERTO RICO, VIRGIN GORDA over TORTOLA and then smaller islands,Anquilla, St Barths,Turks and Caicos.
I am orig from UK and have been 17 years in NYC,How is Barbados compared to other islands and are there any small intimate hotels .I have looked at LITTLE ACRES but have heard reports of a "noisy restaurant " Coral Sands looks good on the web, but cannot tell if it is in a chain of bigger hotels along the beach
Also, does anyone know about parts of MUSTIQUE that are a no no if you are allergic to mosquitos ?????

Based on your stated preferences you'd probably like Bequia over Barbados.
Cotton House is a really nice small hotel so it should fit your needs perfectly. As for Mustique itself, it is a very small island (you can drive around it in a golf cart in less than 45 minutes) and I did not encounter any mosquitos when I was there (during the month of July) but you might want to bring along some repellant containing DEET just to be on the safe side.

In Barbados, you should consider Peach & Quiet if you're looking for a small, intimate hotel. It is on the south coast. All the big resorts are on the west coast. While P&Q is just moments away from the airport, you do not hear airport noise. Also, no children are allowed. From your original post, it sounds as if money is not necessarily a factor, but it is a bonus that P&Q is an excellent bargain. We stayed there for a week last October, and I would recommend it to almost anyone.

I'm wondering where in Bequia you might stay where you could get away from the mosquitos? In Barbados Little Arches does NOT have a noisy restaurant--in fact it is only available to guests of the hotel. There is a bit of noise from the planes overhead, though, but it is right across the street from a wonderfu beach--Enterprise Beach. Bequia is probably what you are looking for, island - wise.

On the west coast of Barbados, you get an "away from it all feel." Treasure Beach Hotel has only 29 rooms, all suites, only two levels, great restaurant, calm water beach. Horseshoe-shaped, with the closed end close to the road. So ask for pool view or ocean view, and you have peace and quiet. It will be and interesting contrast to Mustique. Hi! why don't you try Palm Island, or Petit St. Vincent? You would have better access to Tobago Cays, and Mopion, which is a small sand bar with umbrella on top. Or ever Tamarand on Canouan, (but they have no air conditioners)Barbados sounds to busy for you. Bequia is a quiet island, but the beaches aren't as nice, and harder and farther access to Tobago Cays. Also look into Carriacou, which belongs to Greneda, but is a stones throw to Grenedines and Cays.
